Fam, this morning, I called to renew our home warranty. I was half sleep on the phone. I talked to Tanisha or Laquita and she asked me all types of CC questions. Varified my home and billing addy and that name on the card then she asked me for the personal 3 digit pin on the rear of the CC.

I gave her all of this info and I hung up. Shortly after that cal I realized that Miss Tanisha or Laquita, had everything she needed to run wild with my CC.

I got dressed and headed to my bank and cancelled that card. They took it and shredded it. They are sending me a new one with a totallly different CC number and I'll have a new pin as well.

What yall think? Should I have been alarmed? Am I paranoid?

That three digit number on the back of your credit card is not your pin number for the credit card.

That three digit number is used to verify that you have the card in your possession, not just someone who stole a number off a statement or something.

Mystkev is correct. I think you panicked and over reacted since you were the one who made the call.

You knew who you were talking to and as a company rep she and the company could be liable if she used your info.

Now if someone had CALLED YOU and asked for the info then I would be alarmed, but in this case the girl was simply doing her job.

Look, I worked at a call center with some corrupt asses...we took CC's all day, I never once asked a customer for their 3 digit code...so why did she need that?

Again, my ass was half sleep, it was like 7am here in Cali. No other company has ever asked me for that 3 digit code and I saw it as a person that was writting this infor down and might pass it to a friend when she got off work??

Xmas season is almost here and like wu-tang said..you gotta proteck ya neck

Every company is different, and different companies ask for different things.

Since you are so paranoid, why don't you call and speak to a manager and ask if that's normal procedure and have them explain their reasons for needing the code.

I believe they ask for the tree digit code nowadays cause when someone steals another persons CC# they usually dont have that 3 digit number....

its mostly used for verification purposes only...

This has been going on moreso lately than in the past when u worked at a call center....

I know most times when i do an transaction online i'm asked for the number....

Like I said verification... She couldnt do anything more or less with ur CC# by itself.... not having that 3 digit number wouldnt stop a theif from trying to use your # elsewhere....

Im just wondering since u cancelled the card what happens when that company tries to verify it???

I agree with Myst.

Anytime you give your code over the phone you are taking a risk. This time of year even giving it in stores is risky. I knew this guy who had a photgraphic memory and would write card numbers down after the customer was gone. HE WAS GOOD!

Speaking with the manager should ease your mind, and if she put your transaction through they have a record of what her name is. So if anything happens, at least they will be aware.

Look, that is a waist of my time.

1. I was too sleep to write her name down
2. What the manager gonna say? Umm sir, you have nothing to fear?

It will be my money that is sucked out of my debit account and since debit accounts are not like CC accounts, then I'm liable for all charges..

Let me catch Tanisha and her posse all up at Toys R Us.com with my cancelled shyt...trying to by little Jabari some outfits and toys...

as we used to say back in the day...NOT THE KID!!

You're being paranoid. . .but if you feel safer then that's all that matters, more power to you.

Asking for the code off the back of the card is nothing new it's just something that's becoming more necessary in this age of theft. . .it's a safeguard check on behalf of the company taking the card information.

When they go to process/input the card manually their system may ask for an imprint of the card or you may have to speak to a rep and be asked for that code for an approval to be given to the transaction.

It's not hard to foresee this becoming the rule and no longer the exception as time goes on.

Basically, you are open to the possibility of fraud happening whenever you use a credit/debit card.

It's cool

Kool and the Gang

1. I'm Paranoid
2. I'm Rockwell
3. Money still in the bank...

Yanno what?...like I said, no one has ever asked me for that number and the question would really be:

Admin, would you like to be a Holiday CC Victum? Huh? You could be the "Poster Boy" for how to give up all ya CC info and trust that Tanisha and Dem, will not give it to Tyrone and Malik so they can try ya numbers at random and bleed ya accounts.

Who the bank gonna be looking at? This was a debit card, not a true Visa/Master Card or Amex.

I wanted to be able to sleep tonight, so I did what anyone would do who was worried about their money..I protected it the best way I knew how. Or I guess I could have took it out and kept it in the matress?

Then when Tyrone and malik ran my shyt, they'd get denied?? and hopefully give up?

PS: Thanks for laffing with me fam..I know I sound a mess, but I'm still in control of my dough:D
