F.A.X. PRESENTS "MY STYLE" - A FASHION SHOWCASE FUND RAISER FOR BREAST CANCER
New York, NY - The Fashion & Arts Xchange (F.A.X.) presents My Style, its first annual fund raiser to help fight breast cancer on Thursday, October 16, 2003 at the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.), Haft Auditorium, "C" building at 7pm.
F.A.X. is a not-for-profit membership organization established in 1994. It is dedicated to providing an array of educational and charitable opportunities for professional people of color in the fashion and arts industries. F.A.X. fosters an environment where these professionals can seek, develop and re-evaluate their careers and valued existence in the design and arts world.
According to the American Cancer Society, "if it hasn't already, breast cancer will touch you or someone you know." "My Style," a fashion showcase was chosen as a communication vehicle, because nothing brings attention to the body more than fashion. F.A.X.'s goal for the event is to increase awareness among its members and associated fashion and art industry professionals that it is fashionable to know how to fight breast cancer.
In addition to the money the organization expects to raise, F.A.X. will be giving young designers from F.I.T. the runway. They will compete for cash prizes totaling $850.00. Sponsors for the competition are Burlington Mills, and A & E Trimming. The competition will be held that evening and judged by a panel of fashion legends and innovators. They are: Dario Cortez, Beth Ann Hardison, Linda Tain and Nicole Miller the event's special host and guest designer.
The night also includes the celebration of breast cancer survivors, poetry by master poet Phyastartah and Autumn, and a fashion show with some of Americas most gifted apparel design houses. They include: Lafayette 148, J. Lo, Larry Levine, and Phat Farm.
Presenting F.A.X.'s donation to the American Cancer Society will be Gwenveria Sargeant, founder, executive board member, Fashion & Arts Xchange; Steven Cutting, president, Fashion & Arts Xchange, and Nicole Miller, designer.
