West Indian Americans have been putting on some sort of annual Carnival in New York City for at least 65 years.The current version of West Indian Carnival in New York is Labor Day Carnival in Brooklyn.The core of performance arts consist of masquerades, steelband music, and dances or concerts featuring reggae or calypso music.Carnival itself with its center piece of fancy masquerade bands, floats holding steelbands or combos, and all manner of food stalls, sound systems set up to s ell records, and other attractions along the sides of Eastern Parkway. :D
( BIG UP BROOKLYN big up The late Rufus Goring brought the parade to Brooklyn in 1965.
big up, Carlos Lezama joined the organization and was responsible for moving the parade to Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.

Should I go? Dang, that's a nightmare and a half driving, but we are going to have company this weekend, and they both live in Fort Greene. We would have to drive them back early on Monday to catch the festivities...and they are coming to NJ to get away from the crowds!

the kids parade was nice,, good to see the youth involved in the community( tired of hearing the NEGATIVE SHIT like 2 people got shot later on that nite and a hit& run reported)

by 3pm i hadwalked up EASTERN 3 times and consummed 3 heinikens and some OXTAILS rice & peas (heavy gravy....w/salad):D BIG UP FRANKLIN AVE!!
