I'm getting old
i was told
by a bold
young soul
she looked
at me
full
of glee
and said
"you are old, you have grey"
i said to her

"yes, i am grey
but only today
so get out my face
as i run this race"

Life is not a sprint but a marathon
live too fast & you won't have enough energy to carry on
grey doesn't represent old
just that i lived long enough for my experience to be told
the world is cold
if you don't stand up keep sitting the chair will fold

yes, the seat has folded
underneath is molded
where i sat for years
gave way to your fears
but now i'm up
i rise
to meet the challenges anew
i rise
to be the one that CAN DO
and so later
maybe my hair will
grey...
too

Fold not I, tell I reach the sky.
Acheiving what others dream, before I die.
Down like none other, this African Brother
Ready to blow up, hell naw I ain't gettin fucked.
Being me, only as I can, of the Klitorous Klan
I know one thing, you will never question am I a man.
Oh what tangled hairs we weave.
Just to kum over, and try to tease.
With all that talk of baby slow down,
Thinking she won't be saying that when I go down town.
Well she came and gone, now I am alone again.
Ring Ring, Hello, This is Terry, you know, your X's friend.
Oh but it didn't take long, and I am back on my horse.
This crazy world goes around, and I have no remorse.

After the fall I begin to walk.
Learning what the adults do and how to talk.
Holding my head up high, and doing the school thing.
Wondering when I grow up, what will life bring.

bringing me to today
this point in time where I am told
do all I can
for one day I will be old
Trying hard to grasp at all the positive
things that I have accomplished
looking forward to the day that my
temples gray
and my mind speaks of the maturity
as I give game back to the young ones
hold your head up, be the best you can be
for you will one day wish you could be as
"old" as me.

3 strands and i wanted to panic
thought of my mother and her manics
what color should i use? eggplant or blue?
i don't know mom... what ever fits you
do i want to dye my greys the older i get
it seems like trouble more trouble than i can net
i want it beautiful and wirey and all over
and wild and hot and soulful and moreover
i want it spread across a bed
extending as beauty from my head
i want it to toss and flip and tangle and weave
to cover my face and allow me to breathe
to stand on end when the excitement grow
for i am sure that as an older woman, the pleasure is beyond what i now know.

my grey represents my highs and my lows
my wisdom and mistakes
and the achievements and failures of goals
it also represents God's grace and mercy
and all of the blessings He's stowed upon me
for if he hadn't blessed me so
i wouldn't be here to explain this, you know
