With all the new products and gadgets on the market tday, it can sometimes feel increasingly difficult to "keep up with the Joneses".

What item do you lack that leads you to believe you have fallen behinds the Joneses?

I always want what I want when I want it.. Not because someone else has it.

never felt the urge to keep up...i've always had these goals in my head from day one - and they have nothing to do with society...i did this to myself as a kid because, being brought up poor, you had BETTER have an alternative to success...i've adapted it and continue to strive for it...

I only buy what I can afford. Don't live beyond your means.

Me too. My husband and I want a flat screen tv for our family room, but we know we can't afford it right now. We also want a big screen for the bedroom. There are a lot of things we want, but we aren't running out trying to get them just yet, we will wait until we have the money to do so.

my mom always told me, "it's better to save up and get one quality item than to buy lots of cheap shit"

I've been holding off on getting a dvd player but I think that will be my combined Christmas/birthday gift to myself.

I've never been one to really define myself by what I have vs. what others I have. I know I have what I want that makes me happy. . .if I can't find a practical need for it, chances are you won't see me with it.

I never got a cordless phone because I think if I'm busy walking around the house doing stuff that tells me I don't need to be on the phone. I've got two cellphones one of which doesn't have voice mail and which I only use when the other one is charging and neither one is never on for a prolonged period of time unless I've forgotten to turn it off.

...Now don't get me wrong, I freaking hate 'em, and hate the way the public has flocked to them like sheep, causing untold tens of thousands more accidents blocking visibility and by the inability to handle them properly on the roads. But they are so common now, so in your face, that it does seem like I am supposed to want one, even if just for appearances sake. Then I would also be able to say, "Hey look at me, I'm king of the road, sitting higher up than you, spending the kid's college funds, getting financially molested on a rip off lease, because the dealer understands my plight.... I must look like I fit in with the trendy superficial vanity of my peers, blowing my hard earned money on all wheel drive and other off-road extras when I'll never leave the asphalt, burning gas faster than a lit match, while still trying to bulldoze my way into car-sized spaces, dinging and damaging the mere mortal cars of you poor peons that don't have a house on wheels...." At least on those three or four days a year when it might snow hard enough to make driving really difficult, I can go driving around so I would feel like I got my money's worth on a more practical level. Oh yeah, gotta get me one of those!
