I also got some Italian links and some more veggie burgers.

Everything's working right into my diet no problem. I even slid some of those nuggets in on my daughter and she liked them.

Oooh I like spinach, I need to try those spinach nuggets.

I'm not sure if I've seen the veggie patch in the regular grocery store by my house, it's very limited, but maybe one of the healthfood stores have them.

I have tasted some Meatless meatballs, boy oh boy were they good.

Do these items have a low amount of carbs? I hope so, b/c I'm trying to find ways to cut down, but I like to snack.

The chicken and the meatballs have the lowest carbs.

If you go to the website they have a locator for stores.

In CA they're at Albertson's, Ralph's & Safeway. . .I think those are the largest chains.

I know when I was out there looking for a veggie burger to grill I finally found some at that Albertson's. . .the Ralph's didn't have what I wanted.

According to the website they do sell them at Albertson's here in California, but only a few of the products. They show lots of them at Safeway.

Unfortunately they are not low in carbs, at least they are high in protein. I'm going to at least get me some of the spinach nuggets. I'll let y'all know what I think.

Damn, I'm getting hungry just looking at the package, the burgers look good.

I don't think those are the bad carbs. . .are they? Because it's wheat flour generally.

The meatballs are good, I haven't seen any of the other products.

I'm trying to use up my fat stores.

I told my friend I was going to try the no carbs thing and I had to reconsider and just try to go low and be conscious. . .not exactly sure what the total number would be for low status. . .hmmm, I guess I should try to figure that one out.

I already know where I wanna be with fat grams, protein grams and caloric intake so I guess I should figure out this complex/simple carbs things and what number is acceptable/permissible.

This is what Lisa Lowe (she has the best back) says about carbs

Now carbohydrates. They are your muscles primary source of working energy. Carbs can be divided into two categories: simple (also called sugars) and complex (also called starches). For longer, more sustained energy, you should get most of your carbohydrate calories from complex carbs like whole grains, yams, brown rice or oatmeal. Complex carbs pass through your system slower than simple carbs do which wonšt give you those extreme energy highs and lows often associated with eating simple carbohydrates. Your daily carb intake should be between 50% - 65% of your total caloric intake. JUST REMEMBER _ IF YOU EAT TOO MANY OF YOUR CALORIES AS CARBS, YOUšLL INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF STORING THE EXCESS AS FAT!!!

So I guess if I'm eating the veggie stuff it would be okay. I just worry b/c carbs are my weakness.

I went to the store this morning. I purchased, the spinach nuggets, meatballs, the chicken strips (figured it should be good over rice), garlic portabello burgers, and the parmesan chicken patties. Yeah I went crazy

So far I have tried the parmesan chicken patties, it was good, it probably would taste even better w/some soy cheese or something.

I already have my lunches for the next couple of weeks :)

I stir-fry the strips in the wok and serve over rice or noodles.

I need to get some more of the buffalo wings and try those burgers, I've got some gardenburgers still so I've been holding off til I finish them.

I made the mistake of trying the chicken strips on lettuce for a salad :(

Not good at all. But I did the boil in the bag way of cooking.

I'll try stir frying them like you do and w/the rice to see if I like it that way.

I didn't like the portabello burgers either, that might be b/c I love the Gardenburger flame grilled taste. I'm going to try making it in my George Foreman and see if I like that way.

Brightness or Misha, do you have some suggestions of what kind of sauce to put over the meatballs?

If you have a recipe you can pass on it would be much appreciated.

I was going to fix my meatballs with those stroganoff flavored noodles or with a white cheese sauce (alfredo) and some pasta.

I also saw a recipe in Muscle & Fitness for Her I wanted to try, I think it's the June or July issue that showed 10 pasta recipes. I'll try to find it.

I stick to ground turkey for use in other pasta dishes or to be used with a red sauce.

Teriyaki Pasta and Meatballs

Make modifications as you see fit.

2 oz. dry spaghetti
4 oz. lean ground round (veggie or turkey meatballs)
1 tsp. soy sauce
1/2 tsp. minced garlic
1 cup frozen stir fry vegetables
1 tsp. canola oil (or oil of your choice)
1/4 cup teriyaki sauce

Prepare spaghetti as directed on package. Mix together beef, soy sauce and garlic. Shape into meatballs. Cook meatballs over medium-high heat until meat is done. Stir-fry veggies in oil until crisp-tender. Stir in teriyaki sauce and meatballs. Cook until hot. Top spaghetti with veggies and meatballs.

There are some others that you can substitute the chicken and beef strips.

I would love to try those but because they have the wheat flour I can't. Wheat flour is glutonus, which swells you up. My trainer has me doing no pasta and no dairy.

I stumbled upon these meal-in-a-cups today while shopping and I did a 'test-drive" on the Bacon & Cheddar (it's really soy with bacon flavor).

I also got three cheese risotto, stuffed potatoes: sour cream & chives, white cheddar & broccoli, spicy thai noodles.

I will be looking in the stores listed on the website or ordering online for more because they have stuffed potatoes, soups, pastas, 3-grain cereal, grits, risottos.

I would love to try the szechuan noodle, navy bean, chipotle black bean, potato leek and hopefully the white bean & ham is also really smoked soy.

Thank you for the bump, I will be printing both these threads tonight!

I have been told to give up dairy too, but did have some cheese sauce on my bean burrito last night.

Day 3 without meat and I do not miss it at all!

My latest vegetarian fare is SOYRIZO (soy chorizo) by Friedas.

On a flexetarian tip it's BISTRO SENSTATIONS..chicken & turkey sausage. I have the mozarella w/artichoke & garlic, apple & gouda cheese & havanero & monterey jack cheese varities.

I had the sausages with some Koop's Arizona Heat mustard and it was a wrap.

I ate every last one of them without experimenting in any other dishes like I had planned on doing. I was thinking I could substitute these in some cajun dishes for andouille sausage.

Here's a cheese, mushroom & red onion omelet I made with the soyrizo....I browned & marinated it with something first, I
forget what but something to make it spicier than it was already.

I also thought I might make a breakfast casserole with it.

Looks good. My cousin who is a vegetarian loves her some soyrizo. They sell it at the market down the street, I've seen it but was scared to try. I am glad you bumped this, I never did try that meatball recipe.

I was suprised how good the Soyrizo is but I am a little bothered that the chicken/turkey sausage is in a "natural pork casing".

I know it's minimal just being the casing but I'm gonna have to see if I can get past that.........

I have to go more veggie, but that textured soy imitation meat stuff, yeesh... the sausage looks good in the picture, but the chicken? I tried soy chicken and shrimp at a restaurant once, and it didn't exactly tickle the tastebuds. I'd rather just go meatless than fake meat it.

If I can just get past Tofu, I'd have a fighting chance.
I'm not tryna go all veggie, just lighten up on the red stuff.
I haven't had a steak in almost 4 months, but the lust is still there.

I finally tried the SoyRizo. I made a whole wheat english muffin sandwich w/egg. Mmmmmm good!

I've had the SoyTaco "meat" in the fridge for the past couple of months (I like that soy products have long expiration dates), because I've been afraid of how it might taste. I didn't realize both products are by El Burrito. I'm going to try the SoyTaco tonight.

mystkev

The El Burrito website has some recipes for their soy products.

http://www.elburrito.com/recipescomingsoon.html

I'm going to try the red potato, corn, and soyrizo chowder recipe (whenever I get off my ass).

As much as I loved the sausages, I only got them the one time....they were in pork casings which defeats the whole purpose (for me). Haven't checked to see if they changed up because I stopped shopping @ Wal-Mart and Sam's. Whole Foods has some great alternatives and they're pork-free.

On another note: I really didn't know how long it had been since I made the change away from a meat-heavy diet. I do know its been nearly 15 yrs. since I had a steak and pork chops/ham around 10ish.... pork bacon was the last to consciously go after that.

Amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it.
