Decided, what the hell, it's hot as the blazes, why not drive past 200+ miles of New Jersey and Delaware shoreline and see the sights in Ocean City, MD this weekend. Kinda spur of the moment, but its the alternative to July 4th. When I tried to get July 4th weekend, all I heard was laughter from all the hotel reservation lines. So, I am scouring the internet for info on Ocean City. Damn, the prices are as high as anywhere else on the oceanfront accomodations. We'll stay waaaay outside of town, like Salisbury! Half price, and that will pay for the rental wheels. Anybody in the region this weekend? Going to Ocean City to risk baking like a Russet Potato? Anybody ever been? Recommend a restaurant? Maybe comedy club where they won't pick fat people out in the audience for ridicule, ala Murphy's Nutty Professor? Is it diverse, or is O.C. a hick haven? I think I saw a non-kitchen help black person in one of the internet photos...
I got approx. 36 hours from this post before hitting the road. (Fri morn, 06/27) Appreciate any skuddlebutt. ( Where do I get these phrases?)

Be prepared for traffic. I stayed in Salisbury at the sharaton. I think it was route 50 that I had taken down to the beach front.
The beach is prestine at night.

Hey, I got my digital camera, an extra memory card, and a Costco econo pack of alkaline batteries!
Speaking of traffic, I know those beach towns are a slow crawl getting in and out, and especially on that Atlantic Ave type beachfront street. One person I talked to advised driving to Cape May, putting the car on a ferry to Delaware, then following the shoreline thru all the beach towns like Rehobeth, all the way down to Ocean City. That will take all day! In this heat, we are getting there ASAP, but we will be getting to know some of the other spots on future trips. I was asking because if there were particular spots along O.C.'s stretch that were highlights instead of hit and missing. I'm going to miss not springing for the oceanfront digs when I get all stank halfway thru the day in the heat, and can't freshen up with a midday shower.

Ocean City is not bad, but we won't be scrambling to go back anytime soon. It was just alright. CD, the traffic thing was a mother! We stayed in Salisbury too, at the Ramada, but that drive was a pain, so we only did two roundtrips. With the limited access in and out of there, it pays to arrive early in the day. I was tempted to drive from O.C. all the way up the shoreline, but only made it to the Delaware border, Fenwick Island. We might check out the Rehobeth area for the outlets when the rates drop after Labor Day. But then, if there aren't any xxxL size stores, that would be no big whoop either.
Around O.C., There was a decent sprinkling of black folks, enough to not feel like a stranger in a strange land. Still a distinct minority, but in the general scheme of things, the ratio was pretty normal. Plenty of BM/WW interracial couplings too. We made quick tours thru other towns, like Berlin, which was very picturesque.
If I can ever recapture anything close to a beach body, maybe there'll be more thrill to being at the beach, but as a weekend thing, it was a nice getaway for a change of scenery.
