Software/System Development Lifecycle? I'm looking for info about writing requirements for SDLC. Found a couple of sources online but wondered if any of the Fam is familiar with this. If so, would you mind having a convo with me and/or sharing samples of the requirements you've written?

so are you in the initial phase now?
or do you have to present a plan that shows the five phases?
The way it generally works is that you have certain deliverables within each phase....
like a detailed design(erd, data flow diagram, etc) within the design phase.
or the feasibility study, project charter, etc from the initial phase....

i like the way these guys have it laid out
http://www.michigan.gov/dmb/0,1607,7-150-9131_9347-28112--,00.html
but i have also seen it with some diff phases....
plan
analyze
design
implement
maintain

cool - cuz I will probably need more insight into the actual info gathering process needed to develop the requirements. Kind of a "best practices" thing, ya know?

right...
the question is:
are you gonna write a plan to do THE PLAN
or
are you gonna write a plan for a particular part of the PLAN...
or
what
or
are you just gathering info so that you know.

could be any of the above. depends on whether we are dealing with enhancing existing functionality or adding new capabilities.

sdlc is a methodology....
a way of accomplish the GOAL....the goal of enhancing the product or creating a new.....
its a guideline .........
it sorta sounds like you are actually in the INITIAL phase....
and if you are...there are a few good deliverables that come out of that one....
cost benefit analysis,
feasibility study,
stuff like that.........it is in this phase that answer the question: is this project even worth it?

I understand all of that - as I said I am looking for best practices. To benchmark what I am doing against others. I've always found that a helpful practice in anything...

ok...
so then u r considering other methodologies?

right...
but i do understand being devalued...
the brief consult that i gave dulce was worth 2hrs of work....or $350.

c'mon que! I appreciate the link you sent but that was hardly two hours worth of work. Especially since you basically told me what SDLC is...and I already know that. Some of what I was looking for I was able to get from the first post...I felt like throughout the rest you weren't listening - just flexing your techie muscle....
que90nek

naw...i just went into CONSULT MODE...
i asked you questions...your answers were unsat...so I offered stuff ...
my bad. not flexin any muscle....but i am a compsci major...so this is stuff i should know.

Geez, Que, can you ever get offa your high horse? If you are the freaking consultant then it's not a matter of my answers being unsatisfactory. I was the one seeking info - who are you to determine what's what? And if you can't you give me "stuff"? Man, you just wanted to lecture. The thread wasn't about you or what you know...but then you never seem to realize that so I shouldn't be surprised.
Appreciate the support, Mel!

i was just being honest....
it wasn't meant as a diss.
i asked you an either or question and you said ALL OF THE ABOVE. i took that to mean that you either A. didnt know or B. didnt want to share.
so i asked one more question.
there is no high horse.....just tryna be helpful for some reason.
dulce

ok - understood. But the reason I said that it could be any of the options is that it could be. This was for future reference, not a specific project. Basically looking for feedback from others for ways to improve MY game.
