“Girl, I’m telling you..if his raggedy ass aint here in ten minutes, I’m rolling out. Shoot, my one night away from Jayda…and I’m sitting here waiting on his black tail”. Kerry yelled into her cell phone. Her best friend Michelle, used to Kerry’s bantering about the men in her life just listened quietly. She knew better than to try and interject something, because when Kerry was ranting…Kerry was ranting. “ I could be out doing something else, with someone else, but no I am here at this coffee shop with these white people wondering why on earth is my cheap wearing clothes tail up in this here uppity coffee shop. Shit, if I want to be up in here, then that’s where I am going to be. Shoot, I think ima order me a cup of something right now. Waiter! “ Kerry sighed. She heard Kerry ask for a menu and then complain about the prices. Then she heard her come back on the phone. “Six dollars for a cup of coffee. I’m out”. Michelle sighed a sigh of relief and put the phone on the floor.

At the coffee shop Kerry grabbed her coat and hurried to the door. Just as she was about to open the door Michael walked in. Cool and collect like it wasn’t below freezing outside and that he hadn’t kept a woman waiting for twenty minutes. He smiled when he saw Kerry and gave her a warm hug. “Kerry, baby, where you going? “, he smiled so innocently at her.

“where am I going?. I am getting out of here. Without you paying, I cant afford jack up in here”.

“I’m here now. Lets get some coffee and talk. I had an interesting day. One of my clients wives is divorcing him..and talking of taking all his money. This is good right here. I just got to make sure he pays me before he start paying her alimony. All that money he has, she gone be paid”.

Kerry sighed again. She looked at her watch. Looked at Michael and slipped her coat on and began buttoning it up. “Look Michael, I’m sorry. You cant just waltz up in here twenty minutes late and expect me to be sitting here waiting for you. I have a life outside of dating Michael that must go on. My daughter is home with the babysitter and I need to get back there. Okay. The next time you want to go out, maybe you will think of me and not just what you want. Okay”. Kerry rolled her eyes and took her keys out of her coat pocket. Michael looked at her and nodded. He didn’t even look sad as she turned away and walked out of the coffee house. Like he didn’t even care. But Kerry did…and she was disturbed by why the men she were interested in seemed to be concerned only about themselves.

Kerry hurried over to her Honda Accord. It was five years old but Kerry loved her like she was brand new. She started her up and slipped her Mary J. compact disc in. Track number 6…no more drama. She sang along with it as she drove.
