Woke up this morning not feeling like goint to work, so I decided to call in sick. Hey, Terry this is Lanetta, I'm not feeling to great today, I don't know what it is but, my head and stomach feel as if someone dropped a 10 ton achor on them. I'll be in tomorrow. How grateful I am to have a understanding and laid back boss. Besides I haven't taken a vacation or sick day in what 3 years, so this is well deserved.
I still have to take the kids to school but this will give me 8 hours of quality time to myself.
(Lanetta gets her 11 year old twins up and drives them to school)
Love you, I'll be here at 3:30 to pick you up.
We have basketball practice mom, pick us up at 5:00, Tyler says, Terrance is walking and talking with some little girl (that boy is just like his daddy, Lanetta says to herself and smiles)
While driving down the street her favorite old song comes on the radio, "Square Biz". Damn that was my song she says outloud. She begins to bob her head and sing the song as she is driving, oblivious to anyone around her. Lanetta looks to the left to see if it is okay to turn right on her way home. In the car next to her she sees an old face she hasn't seen in years, Kyron. He is smiling and gesturing for her to pull over. Lanetta smiles saying to herself. Damn that nigga still looks good after all of these years, and look at me... scarf on my head and no makeup. Kyron was the man Lanetta met at a self help group, he had just lost his wife a month after Ty (the twins father) had gotten killed.
Kyron - "Hi Lanetta how have you been?"
Lanetta - "I've been blessed thanks to my children".
Kyron - "I see that girl, you still fine as ever."
Lanetta - "And as always you know the right things to say, to put a smile on my face". I thought you moved to New York, what are you doing back in Oakland"?
(Kyron expression changes to something more seriously than the smile that he had on his face).
Lanetta - "Kyron are you okay?
Kyron - "Lanetta, honestly no...I only left Oakland and went to New York because it seemed as if you didn't want anything to do with me. I'm not sure if it was just that you weren't ready for a relationship or if you just didn't want a relationship with me. Can we go to lunch so that we can continue this conversation?"
Lanetta - "Well, as you can see I am not dressed appropriately".
Kyron - "Well, look you still live in the same house don't you? I'll stop by around 12:00 and pick you up, is that okay?
Lanetta - "Sure that will work".
Kyron leans in and gives Lanetta a kiss on the cheek.
Rushing home to try and find something to wear the telephone rings.
Tracy (Lanetta's sister) - girl guess whose back in town.
Lanetta - I know I ran into Kyron today, we are going to go to lunch. He says that he only left Oakland because he didn't think that I wanted a relationship with him.
Tracy - See girl, I told you to tell that man how you felt about him...
Lanetta - I know, I know but right now I have to get ready....
