View Full Version : Who has the best coverage?
In my opinion, it is CBS news. Dan Rather is a veteran news anchor and he knows how to give the story so that it touches those who are viewing heart.(its something about his look) Foxnews and HNN are okay, but troughout this whole ordeal that have constantly given out false information.

I like Peter Jennings and Dan Rather. . .I usually flip between those two when something big is going on. These two seem to have the longest track record as far as being on the air and knowing what's up with Washington, D.C. and the world in general.
Also, this is a little trivial but they generally know the proper pronounciation of people, places and things. I just hate to see some news anchor repeatedly pronounce something wrong. . .that just bothers me.

CBS and abc are tops when serious news comes up...
nbc had been more concerned with developing "personalities" and feel good entertainment news in the past and they are paying for it now... abc for instance had a reporter who was on airforce one with bush when he was flying cross country so they got a firsthand account.
cnn of course is good...fox doesnt have an established presence and they mostly have the right wing slant on some things...
also don't forget the pbs stations and national public radio stations for your area
i work as a newspaper editor so i can see a lot of the shortcomings in the reporting...now for news on the internet these are the best
http://wire.ap.org/APnews/?SITE=CTDAN&FRONTID=HOME
associated press (worldwide leader in information..ALL news sources pay for/subscribe for their information )
http://www.reuters.com
like the ap, but has a strong european presence
cnn
http://www.CNN.com
http://www.washingtonpost.com
they have all the washington inside info of course
http://www.nytimes.com
(you may have to register but it's well worth it)
http://www.latimes.com
(breaking new stuff on this everyday)
National public radio
http://www.npr.org
public broadcast system
http://www.pbs.org
http://www.newsweek.com
owned by washington post...but will give some new, in-depth coverage...for ex. they basically broke the lewinsky thing wide open
http://www.usnews.com
fairly balanced and serious even when there is not a crisis
also check out the wall street journal because they have offices worldwide and always give in-depth stories from angles no one else even considers...

"Wow, that's a hard one!"
There has been such a wave of intense coverage, I have been flipping channels and they have all kind of melded together. But I can say by way of recognizing the local reporters of NYC, that you can't beat all the local TV stations' coverage. But then again, because NYC is the metropolis it is, I guess even the national guys are local in a sense too, so all of them know many of the ins and outs of sneaking closer to get that vantage point to see into the damage site. I never thought about grading them separately.
To break the hypnotic trance it gets me in, I sometimes go to the Asian or Hispanic stations' coverage, to get the twist of seeing a voice over in their native tongue. I don't know, it helps pass the time. About all I can pick up is "American" and "Rorld Twade Cenna"... Its not making fun of a tragedy, it's trying to weather the mental drain as best as I can.

CBS News hands down! That guy (I think his name is Roger Mudd) is real. Doesn't act like he's just a reader.
