Every January i will send an email out reminding people to get a copy of the credit report from all agencies.....
When you get it, call and dispute everything. Regardless if you owe or not. Why, thanks to my wonderful new loan officer i'll tell you why.
Example: Say you have a car payment, it's on your report saying your balance is $5236, last updated 11/02, you know that's not right because it's 2 months later and you SHOULD have made 2 payments by now which means your balance should be less. So you tell the credit bureau you want to dispute, they have 30 days, if the car company doesn't get back to them....off it goes.... 9 time out of 10 it'll show back up in a few months but with a different balance. 30 days later, you'll recieve a new credit report, explaining all updates and or removals.
You're entitled to one free report a year from all 3 report agencies.
It's best to call them each so you can get your file numbers which you'll need. If you've gotten one within a year, they'll tell you. 2 of them actually give you your credit score.
Good Luck everyone.....i'm now realizing how important credit and your credit score is.......
I need to buy some frames for when i get my new reports.....i already know what they say because i called them each to find out the status of my disputes, since my 30 days ends on Monday, January 27th.
Credit Bureau numbers
equifax - 800-685-1111
experian - 888-397-3742
transunion - 800-916-8800
ps - you'd be surprised at who looking at your credit and who has you listed as joint or co-owner you knew nothing about.......not to mention places you never worked or lived.....
Again, get your credit report and follow up.
