Yesterday when i picked up my daughter, she told me they had watched the plane crash in the building and saw all the people crying running and screaming. She said one boy saw his father on TV bleeding and the boy started to cry and scream for his parents. I assumed this was someone from the Pentagon.

Now my question.

Should the kids in school been allowed to watch such a tragic event unfolding on TV?

I heard several interviewed teachers say they felt in was "history" in the making, and wanted the children to see first hand accounts of the tragedy. I don't agree with allowing primary and early middle school being allowed to view the accounts of yesterday. At least not in school. I feel it should have been left up to the parents discrestion at home. But I'll say this, I feel that everyone who viewed the newscasts have a sense of "unsettlement", and we may all need some type on therapy.

Ditto. My daughter is in high school and she was quite upset last nite. Fortunately, they never announced the exact extent of yestersday's tragedy at her school yesterday, which gave me the opportunity to discuss it with her.

I think it should have been on in the classrooms. It doesn't make sense to pretend everything is okay and keep teaching when it's not.

Yesterday's events were upsetting and children need to know and understand that. They need to know the magnitude of what has just occured in their country. False security does them no good.

My son simply asked me "Why would someone want to do that" I told him "Because they are evil people in this world"

We let our children watch R rated movies, see R rated concerts, listen to phucked up rap lyrics but we want to hide them from the truth. I don't agree with that.

Of course it's scary, but it's the world we live in and you can't hide reality.

Maybe the kids in the Maryland/DC/New York areas shouldn't have been allowed to watch it for that reason. If that were my son and he saw either of his parents in that situation, they would have had to give him a sedative. He would have freaked out on the teachers.

I have mixed feelings about letting them watch on television. . . especially at school~!! At home w/parents is a different story~!!

All I want to know is. . . how do you explain this to a four year old~?? She has questions. . . and I don't know how to answer them~!! :(
