Last night i got a letter from my son that had me in tears....everytime i think about it, i start getting all teary eyed.....he also sent Lil Ugly one and she cried.....she said "Ma, he really getting it together, look what he said to me"...

I guess those the tears i've been trying to let go in church....

I'll be writing him back tonight.

Oh he also asked me to ask my emails friends all over the world a question...which i'll do later.

Now should this be in the confessional or general or get it off my chest?

I would say general, but if you want to confess it, that's cool too.

That's nice that he wrote a letter.

He was on probation, under level b, which meant you had to do certain things, if you don't the PO can bring you back and committ you to the level b. well he couldn't stay in class, in certain classes, had to many un-excused absences and momma was covering for him....so they committed him.

he's up in Savage Mountains...and i'm on the phone with him now....called to thank me for the lotion, soap and books.

yeah it's similar to a detention center for boys. Has about 35-40 boys and a staff of about 20.

They all have to get drug, group, and individual counseling. They also go to school from 8-2 and from 3-7 they go off grounds to a trade school 3 times a week. He's learning to fix engines in cars and trucks as his trade.....he said he picked that because he thinks i need to learn how to check my own oil......

he wants to do drawing too but that class doesn't start till January. The administrator said if he keeps up his grades they may allow him to do both.

The other night they went to see the James Bond movie....so i guess he's been doing pretty good....that's a privilidge you have to earn.

And i'm being patient and i pray daily that he see's the light.

Meelah, as for the books, you can send them if you want or i can send them. that's the one thing he constantly ask for is something to read. I sent him 2 and i think wendy sent him one....i have another i'll be sending once i finish reading it.

I'm glad that he's doing well Tee. I will keep in my prayers as also.

.. but it seems that as long as he can steer clear of the hardcore incorrigibles in the group, who tend of bring everyone they associate with down, his efforts can be recognized by the staff.

The line a teenager walks in any structured environment is very thin. I always felt the pressure of achievement competed with the pressure to not stand out too much from those who's company you value. I don't know your son's story of how he got to this point, but I can take a blind guess that it involved hanging with "the fellas" and getting scooped up in the fray when trouble enters the picture.

Trying to live one's life for themselves, and getting recognized as an individual is one of the hardest parts of growing up. I'm glad to hear he's reading. Reading is an excellent way to exercise the mind, to free it when the body is being restricted and tested, as this detention is doing.
