View Full Version : Women and hair dos
I was talking to a buddy of mine, this morning, that I haven’t seen in about a month and I asked him did he do any follow-up on the lady he met while we were hanging out. He responded that she was a through back. Since me and this guy go way back, I decided to dig a little deeper. I asked what was the problem, caused she looked ok on the outside. He told me that he hooked up a couple of times with the lady and each and every time he hooked up with her that she had a different hair do. So I started to laugh and wanted to know how is that bad? He said that anytime a lady changes her hair do as much as she changes her underwear then she got issues with her self image. I told him he’s been watching to much TD Jakes...LOL!
Has anyone heard of anything like this? Can this be a sign that the lady has some issues about her looks and she is never content with herself?

Niggas and flies....Niggas and flies...
Why can't a woman just be versatile? Why does she have to have issues??? :beating
I mean I have micro braids for the sole reason that I like to change my hairstyle on the regular and it affords me that creativity. I do NOT have issues with my self esteem I just happen to think I look good several different ways.
Your friend CD needs to get a grip.

Tastey, I don't think he meant wearing your hair up vs down. I agree I like a women thats versatile as well.
I got the feeling it was more on the lines that the lady felt her hair made her who she was and that her hair was the deciding factor when it came to looks.

Well mine can change weekly, but it certainly changes every 2 weeks.
Did he see her every day or like 3 times a week? If it's 3 times a week or less, I could see her hair do changing.
What he should have asked her is does she have a personal stylist or does she go to the salon alot?
Besides, she could have a relative that does hair and she get's it done for free...wish i had a relative like that because i'd be in there weekly getting prettier.....:pretty

I thought only white folks at my job had an issue with my hair and it ver-style-tality!
i think your friend is reading a little bit TOO DEEP into this. if he wants a woman who's predictable (which is what i am sensing, then, he can forget it.;)

she just has a lot of wigs...listen, the only thing women can manipulate readily IS their hair...it's fun and exciting to do and cost-effective than trying to manipulate a MAN...she may be a throw back :D  :D  but the lady's got style!

I agree Tastey!! What's wrong with being versatile!! As long as the do looks good! It has nothing to do with self image.. We just enjoy different styles and are entitled to change it when we want! :blah:
Like Ohso said.. If she didn't do her hair, then that would be a problem..
Tell that nigga to go talk to Becky.. Then he doesn't have to worry about hairstyles changing! :blah: :D

I've never heard this. One of the beauty of being a woman is that we can chagne it up. I thought men like variety and changing your hair is a cool somewhat inexpensive way.
I change my hair if even slightly almost every two weeks for the length of our relationship - from growing it out, to braids, to weave, to color. Hubby just wants it together - he knows that my personality sometimes dictates that I switch it up sometimes.
This is kinda weird.

I don't agree with the self-esteem thing.
I do, however, hate to see women with 50-11 different weaves in their head all the time. One week you red and wavy and the next you green and got Poetic Justice braids...aahhh who am I to talk - I just hate weaves period

I wear weaves faithfully...
Cosmetologist by trade so I can do that.
I got hair. But I like a polished look everyday so I flat iron my tracks everyday.

As someone who changes their hairstyle every two weeks, I'd have to disagree with the self-esteem issues part. Hair is supposed to compliment what's already there. I come into contact with men who love that my hair is always different everytime they see me. I don't do anything outrageous, just change up the style. I am limited being that I have short hair, but I'm sure that men would be complaining if their woman had the same hair style all the time. It's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Fox, does that affect your real hair at all? My hair is naturally very curly, and when I straighten it I have to use a flat iron sometimes to keep the roots in order. I use a ceramic iron, which is supposed to work the best, but I always feel like I'm frying my damn brains out.

Before I cut all my hair off I had a different hair style every week. Granted some woman do some things to their hair that make you cover your eyes and scream. But on the other hand if a woman's hair is on point her changes/varieties are a "non issue."

Interestingly no men speaking on it....Hmmm, I'll remember to run this past the 'barbershop' and try to report back more male perspective.
Well, I think I can kinda see where the guy in question was going with this one. And it's more than just the flip it up one day, under the next, curls Tuesday, straight Thursday and afro Sunday.
I have seen/known of women who were to the extreme with their hair and that is indeed what they "thought" of themselves as if it completed them more.
It's hard to explain, that's why I was trying to hear more men say it different ways... kinda the same way guys go on about a "too made-up looking" woman who won't be seen w/o full drag at all times....you kinda wonder what they are trying to hide or compensate for.
