I just saw on the news that a High School in the MD/VA area will start electronic attenedance...meaning the students will scan there school ID when coming into the building to let the school know the child is in and scan again when they leave.

Tell me this is the dumpest thing i've heard.

Kids will be scanning other kids cards just so someone can play hookie. This will not work.

What you think? Would u be for this?

...because that would give them too much credit for having at least the organization to be picking up and dropping off each other's ID. Plus, doing that favor would wear out quick. The one who scans his friend, must somehow go back out without scanning to exit, so he can come back in and get scanned with his own ID card, or he will be marked absent. With guards at the turnstiles, that's an impossible move.

What I think will blow the system up is the legit student that just does not have his ID card. That renders the system unless. What are they going to do, threaten to have the kid that is showing up to miss that day with they don't have their card? What kind of incentive would that be? Hell, I am 42 and I leave my job ID home enough to be absent a couple days a month, if that was the rule. I just go in, give my ID number at the reception desk, bam, my handsome pic pops up on the computer's screen, and the sweet, Beyonce looking receptionist says, "Alright then, Denzel, oh, I mean Mr Andre98, you may go through... and here's my number, call me if you like the freaky stuff....."

Ahhh, it's nice to dream, ain't it?:D

At my last job if you did not have your I. D. card you could not clock in so you would not get paid. Plain and simple. It made it alot easier for folks to remember.

Also at MOST high schools here you are not permitted to stay in school without your ID. You have to call a parent, friend or whoever to come and bring it or pick you up. You have to sit in the office until it arrives. More incentive to remember.

I think kids will always figure out a way to play hooky regardless so this system will work just as well as any. I mean when I was in school they took roll in homeroom then passed around a list of who wasn't in homeroom. Kids still found ways to play hooky. That's part of the adolescent learning process.

Now classes are so BIG teachers don't know who is who any damn way.

I hadn't heard about the electronic attendance. Personally, I don't think it's all bad. For some parents it'll be a God send. We all know that high schoolers hook school.

Currently in the high schools in Prince George's county, they have to wear picture ids. I know for a fact that at my daughter's school, ids are mandatory for all students.
