I found this very interesting and can't remember if I posted it here or not. . .it's a link of different cultural food pyramids: Asian, Cuban, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Mediterranean to name a few.
There's also a link to a vegetarian one.

Look at the diets of the different cultures and thier rate of illness and obesity. Now look at people on "soul food" diets. We did not eat that kinda shit before those crackers brought us over here. We don't need to cook all of the nutrients out of our vegatables and put a bunch of pig knuckles and shit in it to make it taste good.

But the pyramid leaves me with questions. I see that, according to the pyramid we should eat lots of breads, cereal, rice and pasta. But it appears to me that those foods have the MOST carbs and that eating too much carbs can be fattening which the website says. Now I also hear of the simple and complex carbohydrates and that the complex carbohydrates are pretty good for ya. We also know that MOST OF THE BREADS THAT WE SEE IN THE STORE ARE THE BLEACHED KIND WHICH IS NOT THE BEST KIND OF CARBO (as mentioned in past posts). The website above clearly states that the body stores excess energy when the body takes in too much carbos. So I see people on diets eating huge portions of breads and posta and rice. So my issue is that the pyramid does not seem to mention what kinds of breads and pasta are good for you. I know that when I look at the bottom of the pyramid my first thought is that bagels would qualify. Maybe it does qualify?
Also some diabetics that I know respond better to unbleached bread than to bagels and Wonder type breads. The pyramid doesn't seem to address this.
Interesting.
