I've told my wife angelbaby that I don't plan on even sitting at the table. It's just us and Sister & Mom in laws, hope they under stand. But I can't stare down 10+ things and go slow. So I plan to fix a plate of white meat turkey and two veggies and jet to the basement for the football bonanza on all the additional cable channels I now have. This is it, the big test. I refuse to get more stuffed than the turkey!

The toughest thing is fighting off Mom in law, who is quicker to say "Boy, you fat!" yet even quick to load your plate. She'll cook up enough to feed Woodstock and be personally insulted if you don't shovel it in. Well, just like my not converting to Catholicism, this is one more thing she'll have to be mad at me about.

I'm interested in hearing any other holiday eating strategies.

Because of the size of my family, we usually have to eat in shifts. So I usually don't fix my plate right away and when I do, I just put a little of the stuff I like (which isn't much, grandmoms cooking is too rich for me).

I guess that's not really a strategy. Just go slowly and chew up all your food.

Eat as we go

Then by the time dinner is done

We’re too full from tasting the food in the cooking process :D

I am cooking this year, and I plan on taking a day of dieting for thanksgiving. Saying that, however, I don't plan on stuffing myself either. I am going to have all the things that I only have once a year, and be done with it. Back to plan the next day!

I'm going to eat!!!!!

I rarely eat a big meal, I usually am eating fast food or snacking so I am not about to let some good home cooking pass me by.

However I do try to control things during the holidays with all the different occasions going on. But I eat the big meals.

so, my sister and I nibble all day and then in the evening, we get some exercise - nothing crazy, maybe a long walk.

I don't really have a strategey, since I do all the dang cooking, I nibble and taste all day & nite...the one food I have to pry myself from is "Dressing" that is my Thangsgiving weakness...

sad thing is, the old days of everybody worshipping Moms cooking are just about gone. We have friend's house we could go to, even tried a restaurant one year. But since this is what she lives for, she still cooks a ton, and has shopping bags of foil wrapped food for everybody. We've tried, but the old gal has her sense of self worth wrapped up in those doggy bags. We want her to take it easy because she is crowding 80, but the drama takes a higher toll, so we have to accept that this will be the case. It makes her happy.

I still have some leftovers in my fridge.

I'll probably either finish them or throw them out tomorrow.

Sweet Potatoes are good for you. . .I wish I could eat them w/o gagging.

From 50 Good Foods thread:

Health Benefits: antioxidant protection, richest lowfat source of Vitamin E, contributes to heart health, can help regulate high blood pressure, helps anemia.

Nutritional Values:
Per 1/4 lb baked sweet potato
Cal 115
Carotenes 5,140 mcg
Fiber 3.3 g
Iron 0.9 mg
Potassium 480 mg
Vitamin C 23 mg
Vitamin E 6 mg
Zinc 0.4 mg

The book I got that from and some other cookbooks have recipes for making sweet potato chips and other things. . .

It would stand to reason though that I can't stand sweet potatoes, in a pie or baked whole. . .I was thinking of trying to make the chips though, they are thin and I might not feel like I'm choking while I eat it.

They sell the chips in the bag. At any organic store. They have the sweet potato by themselves or the SP, Zuchini, and Yellow squash blend.
They have baked or fried ( in non hydrogened oils of course) Can't remember the brand but they come in black bags.

Morningstar has a veggie slice out now too...

Humph, I am going to try that lunch meat.....the thought of eating real lunch meat makes me gag.....good lawd who knows what is in that stuff....it's right up there with....gulp...hot dogs! Yuck!!
:blah: ooops, didn't notice the high salt content....neva mind! LOL!

Anywho, I love baked sweet potatoes! They are delicious with nothing on them, so it makes me feel good to know that they are good for you.

I put on my workout tape....one of the Leslie Sansone walking tapes....my sister and noodle decided they wanted to do it with me....after 15 minutes of that 45 minute tape, they had left the room...all I gotta say is...

Dont let the fat fool ya! Don't think that just because I am a big girl that I haven't been working out...LOL

I tried some of this for dinner yesterday, I enjoyed it. My mom looked at it's color and wrote it off.
