I think the brothers would say they prefer "thick" women, would not turn down a slimmer woman. It's just that they are more open to those who, as I like to say, know their way around a Haagen Dazs display case. DNS70 is right in saying that the phrase tends to refer to the sister that has a voluptuous body, but is not overweight.

That black club dancer's body, with more boom boom in the butt, or a little more jiggle in the thighs, is not a runaway stick figure, but would not necessarily be considered flat out overweight. That was what the phrase had started out as describing.

It has evolved into being used as a smoother way to describe big men and women in general, because, as the regional spokesperson, we are desperate for any name that is kinder than most that are used. I am a big man, and my wife's a big woman. We can't say that that "type" is necessarily our preference, because neither of us were this size when we met. We have talked about whether we would have gotten together if one of us was this size and one wasn't. Honestly, we probably would not have, we were as smugly judgemental then as most are today about the kind of person that "lets themselves go". It's a humbling feeling to be in a glass house when I used to be a stone thrower. Even as a larger man though, I never considered myself especially enamored of larger women over any other size or type, because in any size there are attractive and unattractive people. It should be treated as an element that adds to one's individuality, like being blonde or redhead, or Asian, or the raven haired, cafe ole skinned raven haired muy caliente latinas, ay yi yi! :D

I really think that those men, that were called "chubby chasers" a few years back, who look at substantially heavy women as an especially targeted sexual preference, they unfairly attach a kinky nature to it, and many of them, though they seek the thrill in the sheets, they wouldn't necessarily want to be seen taking that real big girl out in public.
Now, on the extreme level, there is a whole genre of XXX films that have those real enormous women, and I mean 500-600 lbs and up, the size of baby elephants, like those that Richard Simmons and Dick Gregory would have to rescue. God bless them, I am sure they are nice people, but I just can't see it! The counter person says those tapes sell very well. ( uh, I was in there conducting a scientific survey...) That circus freak attraction to that out of control level of "thickness" points more to the mental status of the sick bast... I mean, the man who gets his jollies in private. First of all Que it doesn't matter what the difference is between FAT as you percieve it and THICK as you perceive it because it all boils down to perception. I have been called BOTH but that doesn't make me BOTH it simply means that some people perceive me as thick and others perceive me as fat.

You will NEVER define the difference because as soon as you do...someone else will come in with their perception and change it.

That's like asking what is the difference between a house and a home. You live in both of them and depending on who you ask you will get SEVERAL different answers.

But... I just always had an issue with the word. Even when I had it used towards me in the positive, it has been used in the negative. And personally... if it is synonomous to describing a good thing (good looking woman) and a bad thing (not thick) (a fat/obese woman), then, its not a "safe" word to use.

As a part of this thread, limitations of what is thick-ly attractive was laid out: no fat neck and ankles, and a weight limit of 150-250lbs? I mean... it was bound to make someone feel uncomfortable that they don't fit in the realm of being deemed attractive.

And he tried to point out that I would say i prefer tall men. I'm sorry... Tall does not equate handsome. Thick implies beauty of some high form. and from the way these guys talk... there is a limitation. So I don't see how his point of Tall-ness had anything to do with my point on Thick-ness.

i have a neice who is a big girl size 18 clothes at the age of 11
and i teach her not to let any boy tease her about her size. that she should stand up for who she is and not let their words define her. especially if they are unclear definitions.

I feel what you are saying Hula. We live in a society that defines people by the way they look.

Tall does not denote handsome but most men under 5'6" want to be taller just as alot of thick women want to be thin.

But as tall can be used to denote a good/bad thing...so can thick, hell so can thin. I've heard women referred to as crack head thin. Certainly not a compliment.

But I think the problem lies in Que's need to clarify the difference between fat and thick because it implies that one is better than the other. Or that thick is attractive but fat is not.

But I would wager if you put a picture up of a woman and asked folks to decide if she was thick or fat you would get differing opinions. So again...it's about perception.

There is a woman online that I discovered because we have a similar handle on another board. She is considered to be a beautiful thick woman. This girl got stretch marks, and cellulite but a flat stomach like a washboard. Now to me stretch marks and cellulite mean FAT...but girly is making money calling herself THICK so who I am to say otherwise.
