A manager asking you to do something that is wrong and will most likely come back to bite you?

My supervisor has instructed us to do something that I legitimately questioned & asked did supervisor realize what we were being asked to do. Supervisor gave a dumb grin and said yeah.

So, shit-starter in me gets it popping off and is just waiting to see if there is something more that comes of this.

I am pretty sure that supervisor will send a communication saying NOT to do what we're doing.

I will then jump in with how I didn't think it was correct and felt she didn't understand what we were being asked to do. So for the sake of clarity.... We should not have listened to you and done the wrong thing? Should we have asked if you were sure what you were asking and been classified as insubordinate? Or should we do the wrong thing then you pretend as though we acted w/o your knowledge so we come out looking like dummies that YOU have to send out a corrective communication to us?

Uggghhhh

Never do anything you know is wrong. I would say that this is wrong because of xyz and just not do the task.

Its not ethically wrong....its more an issue that another department manager "may" get a complaint that directly leads back to us doing what we were told. I don't have the confidence that our manager will own up to the fact that she told us to do the incorrect thing but rather will assure the other manager that she'll "go over proper procedures with us".

I would send a email w/ my concerns...(paper trail)...and if or when she replies, saying yes do it.....I'd follow suit..with her request...so when the biting starts..I'd be like..ummmm look a here!!!:blast

I agree with Chey, make a paper trail.

That was going to be my suggestion: with anything you do, MAKE SURE it's documented. It may take extra work, but even if you have a verbal conversation, send an email afterward with the same thing you just discussed. Print out your sent version and the response, that way - nothing is lost in translation or is hearsay.

If I know it's wrong, I'll just forget to do it on purpose. If asked again, I'll forget again on purpose. They will either do it themselves or get another person to do it. Either way, you are off the hook and they probably will never ask you to do wrong shyt again.

No one is going to fire you for forgetting to do something that's wrong.
