their is a medical assistant here who employees are saying that she uses prescription pain pills. they say because she sometimes looks a little bit tipsy. her mood swings and that she has asked one of the girls for her pain pills. well she was recently diagnosed as being bipolar (hence the mood swings) and she has had gastric bypass so some of the meds that she takes can affect her differently because her body absorbs things on a different measure than a regular stomach.
today she was so sleepy she couldnt sit up. took her blood sugar it was really low. she had some juice got back up to a low normal rate. but she is still sleepy. everyones first thought was she was intoxicated. and she did look like it, but that was before we tested her blood sugar (she is NOT diabetic).
anyways...one of the more perticular MD's was here and im sure that he is going to mention it to the Administrator because they have been monitoring her work anyways.
i feel bad for her. i am her immediate supervisor and i have mentioned to her in the past about her work. but im not sure about how or even if i should mention the fact that people think she is using pain meds.

any input?

Don't know if you even should approach her. Sounds like she needs to go out on medical leave until she gets herself together. My mom is on heavy meds and sometimes she looks like an alcoholic cause she's drowsy. Really when your situation is that bad you need to take time off and get better.
