After being part of the polite at my job they have decided to officially implement Telework throughout the enterprise.
We are now slated to work from home 3 days a week. I have chosen to do this Monday, Tuesday or Thursday and Fridays.
When working from home I tend to get quite of bit of soft work done like project update, project rewiews, and perhaps a small nap in.
When at work I tend to run around between the data center and customers.
Does anyone one else have telework at there jobs?
Did I mention the savings on GAS!

I've been working at home on a 12-month pilot with my company since November 2007. I telecommute full-time, all 5 days and go into the office 1 once a month for monthly meetings. I love it, because of the savings on gas of course and daycare, however..sometimes I do miss being in the office. I was already a homebody to begin with, and no I find myself dreading going anywhere unless I'm going out of town, and I hate the fact that it's sooo convenient for my boss to call me "in" to work on a weekend if necessary. It's OT but still, my weekends are my weekends and I hate the sense of obligation I feel to agree to it.

i've come to the conclusion that i don't do good with the work at home thing. i'd much rather go into a closer office location and work vs. work at home. when i'm home i am so lazy... i don't want to get up.

They have telecommuters here, but I don't work from home. I wish I could, at least 2 to 3 times a week.............that would be nice.

Where I work, the work at home option has always been an option. With the exception of a few folks on our team, we are allowed to work from home no more than once a week.
However, it wouldn't surprise me if that rule would soon change. As for me, I prefer to work from work. Too many Cats, Kids, video games and other distractions at home.
Anyway, I only live less than 1 mile from work :D , so that works for me!

That work from home thing seemed popular at Merrill years ago. My job was not the kind that could do that. I wish I could do it now. They give you access to the company computer network from home right? Maybe even forward your work phone so you can pick up like you are there?
But it backfired for many when layoff time came. As with most companies, deciding who goes is left to managers that have the power to exercise personal vendettas and/or judgments that are rarely questioned as long as the numbers tick upward. You don't want people getting used to seeing less and less of you around the office. Call it brown nosing, but the face to face contact with your bosses keep you in mind when your value to the firm comes under the gun in comparison to others. You have to know you have a great boss.

With my job there is not alot of overhead as long as the work gets done. Trust me I know exactly that you are talking about. The face time is and has always been none with me and my manager.
I work at The Home Depot on the Windows Engineering team. I am split between two team Project and Run.
Project is exactly that we handle new and existing project being introduced to the platform. Which cover the Data Centers, Call Center, Divisional Offices, Stores etc.
Run is support of all application and hardware on the platform.
A year ago I was the only Engineer that had 3 managers at the sametime. I had a Project Manager in Austin who I never saw. A Run Manager in Austin who I never saw and a HR Manager here in Atlanta that I saw from time to time. This is the manager who hired me into the department.
Now because of downsizing I have Two mangers Project/Run Manager in Austin and my HR manager here in Atlanta.
My entire team is in Austin and I am the only one in Atlanta. I have 3 contractors that I hired to assist with work here and I caught hell getting them. We have thousands of server that we maintaine to keep the business running and there are times when I am working from home and have to go into the office to handle issues. Your right it's almost not even worth it. But for now I will take it as it.
