Fam, my job has been streesing me out for that last 6 months or so. it all came to a head on last wednesday. I packed up all my stuff in boxes and left the building for lunch.

I came back after lunch and acted like nothing was going on. I'm still here, but some folks attitudes are much better towards me.

Of course I'm looking for a new gig, but I do not have one yet. :upto: My manager (woman) asked me to call her and wanted to know if there was a problem?

I told her No.

The problem, is actually me. I'm the one who is about to have a nervous breakdown and stress aint good for the Black man.

What's stressing you? The people? The work?

Hell Yeah, All of the above. We need another person in our department to help handle the load, but these bitches will not hire one. Right now, I'm on-call 3 weeks out of the month.

I need about a week off, but I cannot afford it. What I need to do is move to France were you get a mandatory 6 weeks paid vacation every year. Whew!

Admin, that's going on EVERYWHERE.... that's like as common as W-2s and the EEO posters at jobs. Why hire someone new and have to pay their benefits, etc. when we can get admin to work OT or be on call.

This is going on from mcdonalds to Fortune 500 companies...
At my job when someone leaves/retires/quits... I don't think the company even cares anymore... because their costs just went down. They'll keep interns staying on for up to a year because its cheaper than hiring them. Temporary workers too. Then, like you said the regular staffers can't take time off like they are supposed too.

if Six Sigma says it's so,
then human compassion has to go.

I know how you feel. I have done this a few times. Stress is not worth it, cause they are not stressing over you. I have had two colleagues have heart attacks and die b/c they were stressed out at work. The job is not stressing over your ass. They cannot fire you because you are not working 15 hour days and on weekends, because it is illegal to do.

Take care of you and yours first, all that work stuff is secondary.

Yeah, yall are right. You know I applied at another facility with the same company and got a call back from the manager on Fiday. He was talking about making me a LEAD on the department and I could be his "Right Hand Man". Wow, not I did not apply for that type of position.

I applied or a Desktop IT position. Hmmmm, my thinks that this is too close to management and is gonna put the same stress on me that I'm dealing wth now.

Also, this will b a pay cut for me if I take the new job. Yall know I LOVE money, so I'm a little torn as to the move I should take.

yeah... sharepoint is great. my skill in that area is what i believe is one of the selling points of me getting hired; it is an area that few have here in terms of design, launch and manage.

Myst, I need to keep this in mind, too! Admin, I sure didn't know you were going through that but Myst is right. And you know you're valuable because otherwise the other manager wouldn't have offered that position. You might be right about the added stress, though...Might be better to stay where you are and cut back your hours to normal working hours...can you do that?

Wassup Dulce, naw, I cannot cut the hours back at the current gig.

The other thang I was thinking about is my that driving record has suffered, since I have been making that 6 year commute.

I have been through 6 cars (due to high milage).
3 speeding tickets
2 Accidents

Hmmmmm, WWJD?

LOL, I have a plan, Boo. A current job + another offer is on the table? LOL, I'm grinning all the way and still cashing checks.

Funny thing was today, we had a big meeting about our experience at work. I was about 20 minutes late, but as soon as I walked in, folks started making comments to our director about how much work I do and that we needed help.

Now, I did not say shyt. Why? No one asked me a question. I basiclly sat there while others talked about me and played "Brick Breaker" on my Black Berry.

I was happy to hear that folks know that I do alot of the work for the team, but I could not help but think that if I had not "Virtually Quit"....would they still be lifting me up?

Last Monday, we were called to do an emergency interview with a temp. This request came from my manager. On Wednesday, we were told that the temp would start working on Monday (July 6th).

We were also told that the company was able to find some money in the budget and this is the money allocated to hire the temp. If the temp can last 3 months, then the company will make the person an offer for permanent employment.

We were also told that for 2009, there will be another new hire brought in to help us, so that will make us 5 strong in 2009.

Fam, I cannot help but think that my actions a few days ago, caused this to happen. :upto:
