...that half that list is stuff you all thought was cool when it was hot! I remember J.J.Fad, they were at the top of the charts for a decent run. At the time it was one of the first solid female joints. It was weak only because at the time, that was what female rap was, a novelty. Remember how weak Salt and Pepa started off? And damn, "The Show"? "Rappers Delite"? These are hallmark classics! Yall know you were jamming to "The Vapors".... acting like ya shit don't stink now! Just because the style of rap has changed and we can look back at it, like so many styles of things like fashion and see how far we've come, to call it wack is wrong.

That little peanut headed polka dot joker, Kwame, I never cared for, but I must admit, that and Kid and Play, that was when rap was at it's most creative. It seems tame now, but it paved the way for the kind of numbers the industry is pulling in sales.

Why Special Ed's "I Got It Made" and "I'm the Magnificent"? "Lodi-Dodi"? "The Vapors" (Dre, you ain't the only one who still loves this joint.) "I'm Not Havin' It"? Those were the songs I used to recite when I was Lil' Rai-Rai!!

Some of them joints really used to be the shit back then.

What I suggest are wack-ass rhymes:

Any joints by Charli Baltimore, Kwame, Redhead Kingpin, and Vanilla Ice.

ok - rai & dre - ya'll are taking "wack" too much to heart. Wack does not always mean bad - at least not in my circle. These are all songs I liked then and still like today...as I initially posted this compilation is:

Just making something to make me laugh when I listen to it...

..and I wasnt as stoked as I sounded. The budgets were so low, and the videos looked like it. But was it "I Got It Made" that had Special Ed pursued by henchmen, and he was in cars, on water with hydroplanes and all? Whatever of his songs that was, that seems like it was the first time they really started spending money, time and effort on props and locations, to make even a more localized Rap video do more than the "band in a box" stagnant scenery.

It its just a hark back to playful jams, add:
Stetasonic's "All That Jazz"
UTFO's "Split Personality"
Brand Nubians "Feels So Good"
and (??) "We Only Buggin' "
and groups like "Black Rock and Ron"
MC Shine(?) "On the Subway"

Somewhere, in the depths of my basement, if it hasn't been ruined by the humidity, are VHS tapes of Ralph McDaniels' Video Music Box that used to come on every Saturday in NYC around midday. He had all the jams right off the NYC streets! I used to take the videos down to my brother in Philly, who was knee deep in the mixin' and scratchin' DJ hustle.... and he would not have even heard of half the groups that came on there. My brother is eight years younger than me and he seems to have grown out of the genre while I am still getting funny looks as I'm in car going "... and-I-got-what-it-takes-ta-rock-da-mic-right, YEAH!"
