Aight,

Thanks to Shtalker, Sea and Sinbad. I have chosen the destination for the 2008 Hushnic. Dallas TX. Is the spot for next year. Let’s get out on this early and set up some rental houses (s). I’m going to also work of fixing the issue with the Hush registration so that we can have some new members for 2008.
If you have any info on planning this event, this is the forum to discuss it.

Thanks

Ahhhh, this is in Frisco. Not to terribly far from where I live. Close to where MBS town too.

Great shopping in that area too. Stonebriar Mall is one place to go. Has the Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, Chili's and Dave & Busters. Parking is a BITCH!!!!!!

Frisco also has Sam Moon which is a shopping center which seems to be popular here.

Nightlife.........well I don't go out, but Stone Trail, Karma, Firewater and some others, I hear is very nice. Honeyboo frequents Stone Trail and Karma.

Eating.........Bunch of restaurants in Addison on Beltline. Take your pick. They also have the Improv Comedy Club. Been there once. Its small, you have to make reservations.

Let me think of more stuff. Any other DFW members, jump in with some hot spots.

Went to yahoo and did a search on vacation rental properties and not much came up.

I did find this one thats located in Grand Prarie:

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/37293.html#photos

This one is in Sacshe:

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/37598.html#photos

Not sure what area this one is in:

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/35169.html

North Texas is not a beach area. We don't have a lot of rentals that I can find around here. South Texas is the gulf area. If you guys want me too look into getting a group rate at a hotel or look for hotel prices let me know.

Tee as far as seafood............not much that I know of except places like Red Lobster. You have to remember that we have a lot of Tex-Mex foods around here. I will continue to look for places for you though. Here three I found. I think only one has crab legs:

Dallas doesn't really have much of a market for Vacation Rental houses. What I would suggest doing is booking a block of 2-bedroom suites at somewhere like Townplace Suites by Marriott. Their suites have 2 bedrooms/2 Bathrooms, full kitchen, etc. I did some preliminary checking for you guys, and right now for that particular weekend you can get the 2 bed/2 bth for 99.00/night at the Plano location or 129.00/night at the Las Colinas one. I would suggest Plano... this particular location is on the far West side of Plano where there's alot to do activity wise, and not far from the Dallas Tollway, which will put you w/i mins of Dallas nightlife and Downtown sights.

Back to the rooms though, Townplace will probably be the best bet for a couple people wanting to split the cost and share a room. There's even a sofa bed in the living room so 3 people could easily make it work.

I dug a little deeper...on the reservation side...and just booking 3 2 bdrm suites for 2 was $179.00 per night, and that's w/ AAA discount...even so...that's not bad...and if a 3rd wanted to camp out on the sofabed...that's a 3 way split......

comments...suggestions??? were's Sea??? our official Hush TA....I don't know diddly about Dallas...but defintely open to everyone's input.....

I know folks like to do there on indpendent...thang!!...but it would be nice if we are all in the same location??? yes / no???

the sooner we get this going the better....:)

You are reading my mind, I was wondering about the Hush Travel Agent.

May I gently suggest we formally find a GROUND ZERO community, be it north/south/central, and have a commitment to it before month end?

By doing so, if folks want to make their own accommodations at least there is a point of reference from which to work?

Even designating a hotel will concretely set things in motion.......as is par for the course on here, discussions can be on going and suggestions never-ending.

Might I also nominate Chey to head up "the offline committee" as she seems to have a (no-nonsense) affinity for action & event planning?

I could always step up and bang out a itinerary but I know folks don't like how technical and regimented I can get....I will stick to my countdown duties but can also help in researching.

Logically speaking, it can sometimes be beneficial for folks who are removed from the city to do the planning as they can approach from a different perspective than those who live there.

Just ideas & suggestions.......

but a Ground Zero..is an excellent suggestion...
The suite property looks promising.....
Brite (IMO) help is needed from our Dallas peeps...they actually have the hands on in my back yard what's what...

I like to use Cali as a reference...for I haven't been to that many Hushnics....But we all pitched in on the "planning" ...(miss Rock)...anywhooooo.. We had a few meeting session about thangs!!..which was great!!!and we all had input..which was great!!...Admin new of the local hotel....I knew I wanted to do a day in the city starting with breakfast ...it played it out well ...(IMO) the entire day...and Tee & Que, ended up getting their crabs at the end of the day!!..we were actually up and out..by 10:00ish that morning..I enjoyed it, but I'm easily entertained...lol,lol

Hula and Dulce had the food party & dranks set up!!..and Rock...with his grilling skills...there was entertainment...folks went out that night...

and a very memorable Hush Live!!...thanks to our host Mr & Mrs Admin...

So my point is....lol,lol,lol

There's Juice, MBS & hopefully Que......did I miss anyone???..that can be quite a load for just 2 Juice & MBS...

But since Shtalker,Sea & Sinbad...helped make up Admin's mind...I'm sure they have something up their sleeves.......If not....We defintely need a Ground Zero...for folks will be all over the place!!!

I still vote for a house rental...there was tons in Galveston...how far is that from Dallas???

Okay, as I said, just working off observations here......no offense intended but I didn't think that the Dallas locals could/would commit to the task.

My big thing is just making sure I'm not on a "questionable" side of town and liable to see the CHEATERS crew or a COPS crew racing down the street. Although I must admit that would be interesting to have in my stories-to-tell repertoire.

Nah......we would never put you guys in a questionable neighborhood. What MBS listed is a great neighborhood. Plano is a great area to live and hangout. The suites look nice. I hadn't really done much more research. Been a little busy. I am glad MBS chimed in because I was going to look in the downtown/north Dallas area and in the Addison area. Questionable areas you are more likely to find in south Dallas. There are questionable areas there and then there are some decent areas.

Addison is great because on Beltline there is restaurants and more restaurants. There is a shopping area, then the Valley View Mall is close. Addison also has the Improv comedy theater. There is a great little place that is open for brunch. Its called Benedicts and the food is pretty good. They have breakfast and lunch items.

As for things to do...........well I am not a great one at that. But I will try my damndest to find something for us to do.

Everything is spread out here in Texas. So some driving maybe required for some things. As I said before about the nightlife, I don't really go out, but I hear that Stone Trail is a nice spot and its in Addison right off of Beltline. The Crown Plaza Hotel is down the street from it too. The Beltline area can be kinda busy on the weekends. Depends on what they have going on. They sometimes have street fairs in Addison. They seem to always have something going on and there are some nice hotels in that area.

That Marriott link that MBS posted sounds like a good deal. Let one of us know and we can call and reserve a block of rooms.

Girl, you don't be playing do you.

Well if everyone wants to stay in Plano, let me know and we can reserve a block of rooms. You don't want people staying all over the place. You will spend too much of your time driving here and there. Traffic is no joke here. You could run into some serious traffic at 2:00am. And rush hour will have you pissed the hell off.

The Los Colinas hotel that MBS mentioned is closer to the airport.

My plan is to meet as many of you guys as I can at the airport and you can follow me or ride with me. The only thing with the DFW airport, is there is not central location everyone can meet if they aren't coming in at the same terminal.

The Plano location was the cheapest I believe. The Los Colinas area is higher. Everything is higher in Los Colinas. Used to live on the edges of that area. Los Colinas is in Irving. Great area, but expensive. Its near Valley Ranch where the Cowboys training place is and the Dallas Stars training arena.

Juicey1
01-09-2008, 08:31 AM
Well it depends on what you wanna do.

As I said, everything is spread out. As long as you are close to the highways and tollways, you will be fine.

There is great shopping and eating in Plano/Frisco area. That much I do know. I will have to call AAA and get the information guide for Texas.

Throw some things out that you guys would like to do and me & MBS can find out where they are at and how far away it is from where everyone is staying.

I don't do much going here and there, but I can find stuff. The wax museum is a good little drive away from Plano. Will take you at least 25 to 30 minutes without traffic.

Downtown is about 30 minutes from Plano.

Different attractions are spread out. You must have a car when you come here.
