What are some ways that folks save money?

My new husband and I are having disagreements about this. He is more of a save and I am more of a spend. I guess because I went without so much when I was younger, whatever I see I want, I go get. I realize now being married that I do want to actively participate in saving but its sooooo hard....
He made alot of references to my many bras and underwears and the trips I have made to Victoria secrets. (yes he did.!) I was like you wasn't saying all that when I was going and trying stuff on for you.

Did you ever think about opening up an ING savings account?

Your money is inaccessible to you until a certain point, and the interest rate is cool, so you can accrue your savings over an extended period of time

Butta...
ING savings? I have never heard of it.
I would like something that if something comes up, I will be able to access it.

I opened a seperate savings account where i have money transferred every pay day. The only way i can get is if i go into the bank and that barely happens, plus i don't have a ATM card for that account

Tee,
I like that idea.
Do they have something where me and my husband can get an account with both our names on it and both of us would have to come in to withdrawal?
Thats what I need.

I'm sure the bank you are at now or his can do that.

Just open a new account that requires 2 signatures for withdrawls or transfers and don't get ATM cards. Don't open a checking either if this is all about saving money.

@ Foxe...

Go to ingdirect.com and you can read about opening up an account with them.

This is what I have also.

Although I did have an ATM card, I lost it. lol

I was gonna order a new one then I realized that as long as I didn't have one, I couldn't touch the money without going in the bank so I just cancelled it, in case someone found it.

I pay myself first. Its not much but its a start. I have direct deposit and send money to my daughters savings account and to my ingdirect account and to my sharebuilder account. Its small but once its habit u dont notice it and end up saving more than you spend.

I also use my rush card and have money direct deposited there. thats my fun money. once the money is gone its gone and i try to use my checking account to only pay bills.

I save by putting my change in a emptied holiday cookie tin and stash it under the bed

This is what I do as well.

I think you both need to come to an agreement as to what you feel your household needs are and your objectives.

There are ways to grow your money at higher interest rates than just a traditional savings account.

I think every married couple or head of household has a savings/vacation/emergency account but it seems like your hubby is maybe leaning towards the future and that's a great mindset to have.

I would do a little research and talk to some financial folks (without fee or commitment)

HINT: stay away from anyone with Primerica they will hound you to the end trying to do profiles & projections...reading and knowing your objective stops you from getting a whole lot of non-sense.

I save loose change, too and wait either until Christmas or a vacation to cash it all in and usually it's a couple $100 that I wouldn't have readily been able to save if it wasn't for pitching in a couple dollars worth of change every week or so.

Oh, another thing I did was saving bonds.
