WSB-TV news reporter and anchor JaQuitta Williams has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo surgery later this week, the station says.
According to the station's Web site, "the prognosis is encouraging."
Williams, who has been at WSB since 2004, will be writing a blog on wsbtv.com during her recovery.
"She will post the first edition on Wednesday, just hours after her surgery," the Web site said.
The Augusta native, who attended Savannah State College, worked at stations in Tennessee and the Carolinas before joining WSB, where she is a reporter and weekend news anchor.
A colleague of Williams', longtime WSB anchor Monica Pearson, underwent a lumpectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in October 1998.
Earlier this month, "Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts, who worked at Atlanta's WAGA-TV in the late '80s, underwent breast cancer surgery. Roberts returned to work Monday, 10 days after her surgery.
