Did anyone go?
I'm hearing reports that she truly disappointed her fans. She didn't come out til 10pm, was noticably drunk. Folks say the show was so bad people started leaving 20 mins into her set.
My question is, if it's true, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WIT CHA!!!
Oh and what got people was the fact that the tickets weren't cheap....$100 a pop.

A $100 concert?
Shyyyyyyyyyyyyyyt!!! Nigga please and for LBoogie??? LOL. I hope there were more artists on that bill???
Side Story: This is funny to me because back in like 2004 (Big Worm Days) I created a mix tape that I called "LBoogie Is Dead". It was really the Best Of Lauryn Hill: Some Fugees, Some Solo joints, Some Remixes Etc.
Folks used to ask me why I named the mixtape that? I told them it was because Lauryn would never be the same artist again!
Folks would look at me like I was Miss Cleo or somebody, but they could not argue with me, since she was M.I.A.
I really miss her. To me, I know she could have dropped about 3 more multi platinum CDs on us and claimed her spot in Neo Soul.
Hell, I bought Dave Chappelle's Block Party DVD, just to have the Fugee Reunion in my collection.
IMO - what Lauryn really needs to do is stop! and leave performing alone. To me she is FRONTIN'. She still has her chops, but the passion/fire for the game is gone and that is sad, but it's also okay...if you admit it. So, hang it up my sistah.

I enjoy here voice, and lyrics so much.....the words she did with Joss Stone I love...so I know it's still in her.....
Marley Mojo...for sure...that shit ffff'd her up......she need's the Wyclef touch!!!...so she can become golden again. Sometimes motherhood agrees with folks...other times it don't.......It could be all hype!!...i don't know...but from what I've read...she's going thru some thangs...personally, adapting to being a mom, wife, mistress, girlfriend, babymomma of Marley?? did they marry???
It's like my girl Anita Baker...I waited "patiently" for her come back..and the 10 or 12 tracks she came out with..in 2005-06?? whenever...ahhhh mannn..so disappointing...love her voice...but wanted more.....I think all the personal...distracted her/over took her life........that's my opinion...
same w/ Lauryn....

bad love will jack you up like that, you know.
Kevin Brown had folks calling in the other day telling about their Lauryn show stories. The first lady who came on said she was cussin at her band members, pacing the stage like she was distressed, and then fell on the floor and just laid there. Not accidentally... just dropped to the the floor.
i felt so bad for her. i tend to wonder if she is the outwardly expression/public visual of how some of women feel when we are dealing with emotional and mental aches similar to hers.

...see as a former performer myself. I do not understand the DIVA shyt. Back in the day when we were touring, THE SHOW MUST GO ON! was drilled into our heads by Booking agents and Promoters.
Hell, the show never even ran late. If the ticket said 730pm...best belive the house lights dimmed at 729pm and the MC would announce us.
Missing shows, being hours late? Man, back in the day, the promoter would make one call and you were kicked off the tour and replaced with another group.

You are so...right!!!...but I believe in show business or day to day life... if you don't have a strong constitution, easily influenced...or really hungry...shit falls apart.....hell look at Miles...I paid money to hear that Negro..perform..from behind a curtain...he didn't show his self not once...:blast..WTF...damn golden arm!!!

For $100, I would have demanded my money back. That is ridiculous. I can't pay $100 to see someone that hasn't come out with a hit in years. Hell I didn't pay the $90 to see Prince and he always has something going on. I wanted to see Carlos Santana, but the tickets were too much...........I haven't been to a concert in YEARS!
Chey, she been going through some thangs for too damned long now..........It has been at least 10 years........since she had the first baby. I know he gotta be about 10 now..........Mr. Marley was already married, so no, he didn't marry Lauryn.
I also heard she cut off communications with her mom and family and they said her and her mom was close. Did Marley give her some of that Island Ganga that fucked her head up so bad.
I knew she was gone the year she did VH-1 Unplugged and she was singing, playing the guitar and crying..........people were looking like:wolf

see... i went to a couple of the Reggae On The River festivals here in nor cal. OMG... nutts. One year Ziggy was there and I thought them folks were gonna loose their freakin minds. He ain't even a cute Marley!
Back to Lauryn... someone should have told her about dating rastafarians. As passionate and deeply as they love and charm your ass off... A woman is just a woman to them... just because you are a black woman or top star you get treated just the same as the white groupie being passed around on the tour bus. No offense to a rasta here and you claim you are not like THAT... butterah... my experience is them negros ain't no good. they good to look at and kick it with... but that's about it. I prolly met ONE who was cool all around but his wife had his ass on LOCK... she wasn't having it! lol...

Hill falls flat in more ways than one
By Jim Harrington, STAFF WRITER
Article Launched: 06/29/2007 02:44:57 AM PDT
IT USED TO BE easy to be a fan of Lauryn Hill, back when she was making some of the most important and successful albums of the 1990s and winning record numbers of Grammy Awards.
It's gotten much more difficult in recent years, as the diva has hidden herself from the public, appearing just often enough to keep giving Courtney Love a run for the money in the wacko pop star race.
And it was darned near impossible to be a fan of Hill during her rare concert appearance Wednesday night at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland.
How bad was this concert? Well, calling it a fiasco would be an insult to fiascos everywhere.
It was bad enough to send 75 to 100 fans into the lobby only four songs into the set, all of them grumbling loudly and demanding refunds. Those were the smart ones the rest of us remained in our seats and watched what amounted to a two-hour train wreck.
It was easy to sympathize with the disgruntled fans. It was also hard not to feel bad for the venue and promoter because they were presenting what they surely believed to be a still-professional act.
The blame for this whole mess should fall squarely on the shoulders of Hill, who really should consider retiring at this point in what's left of her career.
The crowd had started to turn on Hill long before she took the stage nearly 21/2 hours after the showtime printed on tickets.
Even with an opener, fans were forced to endure an hour of silence. Little
did they know that would be the highlight of the night.
Once Hill finally made her appearance, fronting a solid 14-piece band that deserved far better than this, things began to unravel.
She opened with a jammed-out, improvised number that featured almost no real lyrics and zapped whatever wind remained in the crowd's sails.
The 32-year-old vocalist then turned to 1998's landmark "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" a work that, amazingly, still stands as her most recent studio effort for a garbled version of "Lost Ones."
Her voice was terrible, so harsh, strained and unlike what one hears on the masterful "Miseducation" CD. She also sounded out of shape, huffing and puffing after only a few songs.
But it wasn't just her voice that was shaky. Hill stumbled about the stage and, at one point, actually fell flat on her back which brought into question exactly what the singer had been doing backstage during the long delay.
Hill blamed her stage fall on her high heels and, later in the show, took the time to assure the crowd that she was sober.
Assuming she was telling the truth, that's one less excuse Hill has for her terrible outing, which included shoddy and uninspired vocal performances on such formerly great "Miseducation" tunes as "To Zion" and "Final Hour."
The singer had somewhat better luck with the material from her old band, the Fugees. Her voice was brittle and weak on "How Many Mics," but she finally started to get in the swing of things with "Fu-Gee-La" and "Ready or Not."
By that time, however, the once-capacity crowd had dwindled down to half a house. Those who left early missed Hill's new song, "Lose Myself," featured on the "Surf's Up" soundtrack.
It's a pretty good tune, but the singer wrecked it in concert by stretching it out far beyond its recommended dosage.
In all, Hill didn't manage to provide one good reason why locals should remain in her fan camp. I'd like to tell you different, but that would clearly be a "miseducation" of the readers.

Damn, she got issues. For someone who used to be so together and cared about her appearance and lyrically couldn't be denied, this shit is sad. I see a Behind the Music in her future.

did ya'll know her and Rohan Marley had four kids?
I did.
I'm really having a hard time blaming Rohan for this chile's troubles. Granted the opposite sex can mess people up, but to place sole blame on him is bothering me.
I believe she had/has issues outside of Rohan, I dont know. I just not one to blame a men for everything negative that happens to women.

I think for as strong as we thought she was, she really wasn't. Besides all the stuff I've heard about with Rohan, there's no telling the real deal behind their relationship. For those that say he's a male gold digger, he and the rest of the Marley brood are living well off Bob's legacy. I think it was a case of too much, not too soon, but at one time. Her fame came really within a three year span, the 1996 release of "The Score" and the 1998 release of "Miseducation. That and her having 4 kids could take out the best woman.

but...she's still pretty deep..sistuh...as i read more about her...I don't think...this went over very well with the Vatican....especially after being invited their at Christmas time....ouch!!..ya'll know you can't insult that gold plated shrine....
[edit] Humanitarianism, activism, controversy
Hill is noted as a humanitarian, and in 1996 she received an Essence Award for work which has included the 1996 founding of the Refugee Project, an outreach organization that supports a two-week overnight camp for at-risk youth, and for supporting well-building projects in Kenya and Uganda, as well as for staging a rap concert in Harlem to promote voter registration.
In 1999 Hill received three awards at the 30th Annual NAACP Image Awards. In 1999 Ebony magazine named her one of "100+ Most Influential Black Americans". She was named with Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. and others among the "10 For Tomorrow," in the EBONY 2000: Special Millennium Issue.
On December 13, 2003, Hill shocked officials at a Christmas benefit concert at the Vatican by denouncing "corruption, exploitation, and abuses", in reference to the molestation of boys by Catholic officials in the United States of America and the cover-up of offenses by Catholic Church officials. Hill told the crowd of 7,000:.."her words"
I am sorry if I am about to offend some of you. I did not accept my invitation to celebrate with you the birth of Christ. Instead I ask you why you are not in mourning for him in this place? I want to ask you, what have you got to say about the lives you have broken? What about the families who were expecting God and instead were cheated by the Devil? Who feels sorry for them, the men, women and children damaged psychologically, emotionally and mentally by the sexual perversions and abuse carried out by the people they believed in? Holy God is a witness to the corruption of your leadership, of the exploitation and abuses which are the minimum that can be said for the clergy. There is no acceptable excuse to defend the church.[10]
Hill called on the church leaders to "repent" and encouraged the crowd to "not seek blessings from man but from God."
There was silence for several minutes from the audience as many could not speak English. There were cries of "Enough" and "Shame" from those who understood while others whistled and clapped before she picked up her guitar and performed two songs, entitled "Damnable Heresies" and "Social Drugs". After her performance her comments were translated for Cardinal Camillo Ruini, head of the Italian Bishops Conference, who was sitting in the front rowand he walked out in protest. Among those in attendance were Edmund Cardinal Szoka, American-born President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City, and President of the Governorate of Vatican City. The segment was cut from the television broadcast by the Church, and a full transcript of Hill's statement has yet to be released.
The global response Hill received was varied. Monsignor Rino Fisichella, one of the organizers of the traditional concert, said: "It was in poor taste and very bad mannered. It showed a complete lack of respect for her invitation and for the place where she had been invited to perform", while the Catholic League responded by calling Hill "pathologically miserable".[11]
Hill's only official response to the church, while returning to New York, was: "What I said was the truth. Is telling the truth bad manners? What I asked was the church to repent for what has happened....
Oh well.......fast forward....

This thing at the Vatican really happened in 2003?
Was it reported widely on the news? I must have missed it.
I would think that someone, anyone confronting the Catholic Church in their main home court would be the biggest news since walking on the H20.
About Lauryn, hey, I can't even imagine what is going on in her head. Fame must be a bitch. I think all the legal entanglements after her album is where the decline started. I'm amazed that there aren't so many more bizarre stories of people losing it ( maybe there is) like the Hi-Five dude after tasting a moment in the limelight. Fame must drive you Cuckoo.
I look at Jordin Sparks and say, man, what Clay Aiken said about how fast your whole world changes in a bubble like A.I., and while many of us crave getting there, there is nothing to prepare you for the insanity. Nothing but a ton of people expecting their piece of you for their money's worth and beyond - expecting you to never question the trappings of your fame - to forever be grateful and never complain that any of it is "too much", because dammit, there are thousands, millions that would die to take your place. It's a Tower of Babel.
