Been logging many hours getting this VCD thang down. Finally made a decent VCD movie on Tuesday night. The encoding takes soooooooo long and ties up my PC, so I just bought a Terrapin VDR. The is a stand alone unit.

It will arrive in a few days and I'll let ya know how the uality is..vs. my Pc versions of VCD's.

Two New Toys for Ya..

1. DVDit.. you can download with serial number from morpheus. It takes Mpeg1 or 2 and makes them coded for DVD. MPEG2 is DV quality. but you pop it into your DVD player and it is treated as a DVD not a VCD. you can have start menues and liniks to your movies. In MPEG2 mode you can only get about 20 minutes on a CD. Other than that it's DVD burner time.

2. For video editing.. Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects. The after effects plugin called CINELOOK makes Video look like film. so when you do your porno you can make it look lik you shot it on film.

If you don't have a Mini DV cam, get one. or Digital8. Firewire captures loose no frames. I am going to get a USB 2.0 card and see if that makes my Dazzle captures look any better. Other than that my dazzle only does 352 x 240 max.. I needed something with more pep. I bought a Sharp MINI DV cam from HSN.com. Hey they had a 100 dollar rebate on the sharp website.. So I flex paid it and it only costing me 89.00 a month for 5 months.. factoring in the rebate.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the advice, but my Terapin VDR came in the mil yesterday and let me say that it's all that and a bag of chips.

1. Hook up a DVD, VCR, Tivo, Cam, or TV to it
2. Pop in a blank CDR
3. Press record and you are recording (realtime)
4. Finalize the disk (only takes 2 min.)

Done!!

5. Pop the finished VCD on your PC or DVD player and you are watching the movie.

This is the shit!!! No more encoding the mpeg file or 4-7 hours and tying up my PC. This is a stand -a-lone unit, so I have my PC back!!!

Whew!

Last night I recorded:

Baby Boy,
Two Can Play That Game ...and
Good Fellas

All of these came out having great quality and sound!!:D

Now, my next test is to record from my VCR. I have some old tapes that I want to put on VCD...like Hushnic 2001:D

I dont know dawg.....

VCDs are beginning to be a thing of the past....soon they wont be able to hold enough data...I just ordered a DVD-R for the lab so I can start ripping DVDs, burning DVDs, using the DVD as a basic storage unit, etc.....

however my question to you is that after you record with this terapin unit, can you pop the VCDs into your DVD player and view it?

BIG MACK

If your DVD player supports VCD then you are in business.

I got a few new toys.

1. Mini DV Camera w/ firewire
2. Ulead DVD Toolkit

I can make DVD at full quality on a CD-R about 10 minutes
Up to 18 minutes at Low Quality. And it's an official DVD.

I also have Ulead DVD photo album, or whatever it's called.

It makes slideshows with music and puts them on a CDR in a DVD format. The only thing is again you have to have a newer DVD player. The cool thing about VCD is that those will play on any computer throught the regular CD rom.

I like these tools because they go with my business Audio/Video Productions.

But I'm with you DVD-R is my next toy.

At least if I can get 5 min DVD on a CD-R, I can get blank CD's for 12 cents each. it's cheaper for me to buy a real DVD than to copy one. The media is still expensive. But for those clients that can afford the service.. it's a good tool

Mack, this is just one of the DVD players I have. Under $100.00 and it plays it all. So YES, after I finish a VCD in my Terapin, I CAN pop it in my DVD player and get to viewing..

Oh and those DVDR's can only hold 120mins right now and the blanks cost about $6.00 compared to the CDR blanks that cost only .10 - .20 each.
