In the past 14 months I have stayed
#1. Bellagio is my heart
#2. Venetian - expensive as hell but old world pretty yet kinda far from the haunts I like to go
#3. NY NY -On business not on my own dime so I can't vouch for pricing but great urban flair, had absolutely no reason to go anywhere else after hours
#4. Paris - reasonable, and very quaint cobble stoned streets and Parisian shops and of course it is across from the Bellagio

We stayed at Circus, Circus, which would not have been my choice. Too many damn kids, and the buffet was nasty. But, hey I wasn't paying, so can't complain about that. It was in a good area on the strip though. Good walking distance to lots of things and the rooms were nice.
Next time I go, I will stay somewhere else, with less damn kids!!!

iris -
i've always loved Bellagio, but never stayed there. that is STILL the prettiest damn hotel. i can't win a dime in their casino! and Paris had a darn good rate for the luxury room on harrahs.com which went for something like $206 for the weekend. compared to the prices ive been paying for travel these last few years - that's great.
everyone:
i want a strip hotel because i use this one limosine service (forgot the name - maybe one of ya'll remember it) where its $7 one way to a strip hotel. some of the best riding in vegas! lol (unless the price went up)
i miss vegas. i want to go alone or just me and my man so i/we can do what ever the hell i/we want to do without a group of folks pulling 5 different ways.
where did you guys eat?
brotherB - what hotel you last stayed in in vegas?
i've stayed in:
1. flamingo hilton (2 times)
2. monte carlo (3 times)
3. harrah's
4. bourbon street (rip) (3 times)
5. excalibur
6. some street walker motel in down town vegas near fremont street! lol...
7. trendwest vacation condo
8. friend's home
i've seen the inside of: :upto:
hilton
luxor
venetian
this suites hotel by the orleans that i can't remember the name of
almost got to see the inside of: :upto:
mandalay bay

Was your favorite Stardust by any chance?
Long live the 'Dust... one of the last hotels of vintage class Vegas had to offer.
Monte Carlo(for location and price) is my favorite, but I usually stay at The Orleans or Luxor. Luxor has become overpriced for the rooms they offer(and their non-paying damn casino) and The Orleans, well after my last trip in August I won't be staying there anymore. The cliente has shall we say, changed. I also stayed at South Coast(now South Point) which is wayyyyyy far down Las Vegas Blvd. off the strip, but I love this hotel! It's worth a looksy at least.
Rio is a nice choice too- Always jumpin'!
I'm going NBA All-Star Weekend in February and the best I could do was Barbary Coast(next to Bally's) at 259/nt. Even Stratosphere wanted 300+ a night! I've never stayed at Barbary, but the Vegas board I frequent raves on the location and they've upgraded all of their rooms. The casino is super tiny though. On high-priced weekends like the one I'm going on though, the most important thing is having a price to lay your head.
When are you thinking about going?

what weekend is the all star so i know NOT to go that weekend?
where is the vegas message board so i can have something else to read while i gear up?
and my favorite was the bourban street (rip) i would order my food at the slot machine and they would bring it to me or let me take all my dishes to my room if i wasn't finished! I LOVED IT!
but they are no more :(
what's funny, their website is still up and running, though none of the phone numbers work: http://www.bourbonstreethotel.com/
i like barbary coast - then again i like small casinos. i win better in small casinos.
i especially like barbary coast because their casino cage are wonderful people. one weekend i went down and i had not cashed my check - no i didn't have direct deposit - i just went down there with a paper check.
at 4am i went to the casino cage on a whim (cause i was staying at bourbon which was on the next block) and they cashed my check! and didn't even charge me interest! i was so happy! they said something about my company being a major corporation and their bank too, that they can trust the check will get paid.
maybe all casinos do this, but at that time (and still now) i didn't know this. i thought they only cashed personal checks.
neways... maybe i'll look up barbary coasts rates too...

All-Star weekend- Feb. 16-18th
Vegas forums(there are several but these two have the best info) lasvegastalk.com and vegasmessageboard.com
I'm relieved to hear good things about Barbary... I've only dipped in and passed through walking from Paris and Bally's... What I meant by their casino being small was no breathing room whatsoever. Getting bumped into and stuff.. I hate that. I usually don't make it a habit to play where I stay anyway so I should be good.
Happy hunting on those boards... I call myself a Vegas expert and every upcoming trip I make logging on to them a daily task and am amazed at some of the little things that I didn't know before.

Oh yea- If you are trying to avoid crowded weekends, forget about Super Bowl weekend( Feb. 2-4th I think) and March Madness which basically starts around March 13th and lasts the entire month.

bless you babycakes for those dates because i'm SO not feeling crowds. the older i get the more they get on my nerves (unless i go to a disney park  and even then i am modifying my trip dates for the future).
and i also don't like rate hikes (who does). maybe when Jesus comes to town, i'll pay it! lol until then... i'll hit the spots up on the in between!!!!!!
also, thanks for the message boards.... i love travel message board because you know you are going to get the most honest information.
i can't even call myself a vegas expert anymore because i've longed stop keeping track of all the info and good stuff
i am still expecting more folks to share their vegas trip info!!!!!!!!!

That was imploded in either '04 or 05... making way for a new resort.. the only thing it had going on was the Purple Reign show.. .

I always have the itch to go to Vegas.
I haven't had the pleasure of staying in any of the hotels. My best friend lives there and I usually stay with her. While she is at work during the day, I catch the bus to the strip and walk, walk, walk. She lives on Tropicana and its a straight shot down the street to the Strip.
If I ever get the chance, I would like to stay in the Bellagio, then maybe the Venetian.
Hula, have you tried looking for flight & hotel packages. Its cheaper than paying for each separately.
Here is a website you can try. Just put in the dates and watch the packages pop up. Its my husband's travel site. I was searching it for packages for his cousin for February. Pretty reasonable I think. It pulls in information from all the websites like travelocity, orbitz, etc.

yes i've been looking at hotel/flight packages. i will look at your husband's site too. i love orbitz and and sidestep because sidestep gets all info from other sites (much like all others; and with the exception of southwest) and clicks you through directly to the company's website to make the purchase - so then the company has to honor the deal. orbitz i like because i can do a search on flexible dates and it gives me all of these various options.
i've seen some no less than $173 (one way i think) but i'm not sure which hotels they include. my man is on the high end side of things, so i can't pick any old hotel like i do when i travel alone! lol

that's my girl!!!..Jan 27th I think...she's performing in some lounge/hotel off the strip
I'm partial to the Luxor...there spa is great!! Had brunch @ the Belliago...you know they have a sign "No Children Allowed"
If i can't scratch my itch in Vegas...I'll have to settle for a Reno turn-around...

i loves me some etta james. do she put on a good show chey?
i didn't see the sign that says no children  ... that's fine by me... i already told my son, although he's been to vegas, that i personally wasn't taking him til he can afford his own bankroll and hotel room.

Hula, did you ever decide when you were going?
After I heard the forecasted crowd for All-Star weekend I decided to rebook for March... before the college b-ball finals.
I did want to check out Barbary Coast before the Harrah's take over.. after Feb. 27th it will no longer be BC, but Bill's Gamblin' Hall and Saloon  Doesn't even fit the name of a strip property.
