I haven't seen... I will probably wait 'til it comes to video... But, am I the only one thinking, if a Black man tried this at any time in America...

They would kill him, dead...

I just can't see how this script was bought and made into a feature film... In reality, this film would only last... 15 mins, the time it takes the police to arrive at the hospital...

I didn't think that at all Mel.

Most movies unless based on actual events take actual events to the extreme. It doesn't mean it will/can happen...just what if?

Besides that, even if you had asked ALL of the experts this time last year if 2 planes could bring down the WTC towers...they would have told you..."It could never happen. It's highly unlikely. No that's the stuff fiction movies are made of."

So with that in mind I'm going to see it this weekend for the entertainment value, and hope and pray some idiot doesn't actually try it.

Nostradamus...

I didn't think it would happen, but I knew it could happen...
Thank God I aint a criminal, 'cause there is too many wholes in American Airport/Airplane secruity... I have been saying that for years...

No one can tell the future... If McVeigh with his High School Diploma, could blow up a building... I am sure a America hatin' sand nigga with a PHD, could figure something much bigger... That logic doesn't work... I have been overseas, to the middle east, even...

That hate for America is deep, 'cause people outside the caution of the blindfold, don't see some of the ill shyt, keebler has going on abroad...

This film, is dumb... I just don't get it...

I was speaking of the experts who built the building Mel. They were on the news after it happened stating they believed the buildings were too strong to topple. NOT THE ACT OF TERRORISM, but the buildings actually FALLING. Even the rescue workers inside NEVER thought the buildings would fall...that's why they fell on them.

Where's Que and his movie review? Myself, this is one movie i'd like to see....

Both my kids want to see it too, so i need to know if it's ok for my 9 year old. My son is 17. It is rated PG-13.

Well, Bin Laden is a Civil Engineer... His family owns the largest architecture/construction firm in Saudi Arabia... He use to work there...

I too, work in the construction industry...:p

The structural enigineers I spoke to believe say no one designing the structure 20 years ago, would have never put into consideration a jumbo jet hitting those buildings...

No one is an expert, cause it never happen before or was not studied, until now... Now, future designs will take that into consideration...

When I saw that, I was thinking to myself... How can they go in there... It's coming down....

My point exactly. Just because it doesn't seem likely...does not mean it can't happen.

The what movies are for...to stretch the imagination beyond what we think can happen.

John Q... Some fool takes over a hospital, to make the doctor perform a surgery...

Can't compare the two, that should be a short film...

15 minutes...

And, a jailed or dead black father...

Actually Mel it's to have his son put on the donor list for a heart transplant.

Yeah someone taking a hospital hostage is about as far fetched as say "some fools taking over an airplane with a box cutter."

Or as far fetched as say "a million dollar company that's doesn't really exist, costing investors to lose thier life savings"

or "a president actually buying an election"

or "parents killing their own child in their own home...and getting away with it.(Jon Benet)"

Yeah, pure fiction...that's what I'd call it. :p

I said, a BLACK man wouldn't get away with that... This movie goes in same category with... A White Man's Burden...

And if Pauletta ever kick the bucket....it's on and popping. LOL :p

Well I haven't seen the movie so I don't know if he gets away with it or not. On the previews they were about to take him out by sniper. LOL

I'm going to see it tonite...or tomorrow nite. I'll let you know if he lives. :p

By the way if you have enough money...your name will miraculously move up on the donor list, and also in this movie John Q has no insurance coverage so they won't even put him on the list.

My last point is this, we have the NAACP, and all of us black folks in an uproar about not enough blacks in leading roles in movies, not enough black movies, etc etc. I am glad to see a black man play something besides a gold tooth wearing jive talking inner city ghetto living hood, in a movie. Or playing a historical black character.

There are black people who are just average middle class like John Q. There are black people who are in front of the police because of what they believe in and will die for...not just for selling drugs and drive-by shootings. Black kids need a hero, just like white kids. Harry Potter ain't real, Lord of the Rings ain't real, most of that trivial bullsh*t in movies ain't real or realistic.

If they had a black man play Queen Elizabeth in a movie I'd cheer him on because it's time we had a chance. It's 2002 and we still playing maids, slaves, and hoods. We cry that we never get a chance in a movie and when we do...we call the movie stupid. But we run in droves to see Babyboy, The Wash,or any movie starring a rapper turned actor and other movies that portray us as ignorant and low class...you call that realistic???

I grew up in the suburbs, never witnessed a drive-by, and have only one baby daddy...in Black America...I guess I'm unrealistic too.

he die 4 days after receiving the transplant...

Whoa, I thought Baby Boy was good...:D

I grew up partly in the hood, no kids...

It's nothing wrong with the hood...

This is the main reason that Black Movies dont do well.... Because people think its not realistic....

Like Tastey said unless its a movie based on actual facts then every movie out there is UNREALISTIC....

By the way the Movie IS about his INSURANCE COMPANY not paying for the transplant.... Not the fact that the hospital isnt going to do it.... they actually wont but because of his insurance....

I saw Oprah (the show was based on the movie itself) a couple of weeks ago and it was said then that this has indeed happened in this country at least two times.... Someone has taken a hospital hostage.... whether they were black or not I dont know but the truth of the matter is that Insurance Companies are out to make money and if a man, any man, were faced with this delima then maybe it would cross his mind... he just may not do it....

Oh and by the way Mel.... when u have children maybe then u will understand how the character feels.... But until then I don't think its fair for you to call a movie stupid because its unrealsitic in your eyes

Melotic

I would think the same about this movie, if I had children...

I doubt seriously, the media in this country would let a Black person holding a hospital hostage, slip through the cracks...

This is my opinion...

I also didn't think Cuba Gooding deserve an Oscar for Jerry McGuire... Who knows, this may get flick of the year...

Titanac did, I thought it was a silly flick, too...
Still, haven't seen it...

i thought the movie was decent....

at least 3 times in the movie.....the audience felt moved to clap! which normally doesnt happen when the audience is black....which struck me as odd...for some reason most of the audience WAS black....well i guess they don't call this the chocolate city for nothin!

the movie is nothing more than a message to us....to politicians to get this HEALTHCARE thing together.....at least twice in the movie they pointed out the fact that 40-50 million folks don't have insurance....they even pointed out the inconsistencies of HMO insurance...

i do recommend this movie...and i recommend.....that you take your entire family.
