Mike Tyson might never be allowed to fight in Las Vegas again.

But the Nevada State Athletic Commission isn't the only group deciding whether or not Tyson belongs.

Rumor has it Muslim leaders want to excommunicate Iron Mike from the religion. It seems they're wary of the negative image he portrays.

I don't think that they kicked anyone out of the religion, they simply removed Malcolm X from their religious organization. So malcolm started his own organization. Religion or spirituality is bigger than the places you meet at or the people involved with it. He mad his Muslim Oath to God not to some dude wearing an FOI suit. So they may want to dissassociate themselves with Malcolm, Tyson and whoever else. it doesn't change the fact that these people aren't muslims it just changes the where the exiled fellowships from that point on.

Malcom praised Elijah, yet, he got a lot of attention. Elijah didn't like it. then when malcom stood up for Elijah's teachings against Elijah's command (see Malcom's comment re: Pres. Kennedy's death) he was suspended.

Muhammad Ali - happened to him ... NOI didn't want to have anything to do with him when he wasn't making no money, wasn't winning any titles.

Now Tyson? Why they let him in anyways! lol

Anyways... NOI, just like black folks. Always got a reputation to protect, yet, ain't got a good reputation to begin with.

...anyone who places so much faith in man, i.e., "the honorable elijah mohammed", deserves to feel like they've been excommunicated...wtf??? who can or cannot tell me that i am "kicked" out of a religious sect??? anyway...i digress...it seem the noi does have the tendency to pick and choose as they see fit or according to how the person in the spotlight shines their light on them...not surprised at all....

I heard of a jehovahs witness getting kicked out b/c she got pregnant out of wedlock. I am not sure if it was out of that Kingdom hall or the religion altogether.....

You know what, I have never heard Catholics doing this.

Jehovah's witness, yes, parents will disown their children if they do anything the bible tells them not too, including prego out of wedlock. I have a cousin who's brother's parents didn't do that. But I have heard of a lot of young girls who's parents disowned them. Its that or the religion will kick the parents out, too.

It was always my understanding that the NOI and the Muslim religion were seperate anyway.

I mean only black people can be in the NOI but there are Muslims of every color.

Also the Jehovah's Witness's will disfellowship you...it's not the same a being kicked out. (Can't remember the Hush member who corrected me on that awhile back...but they are not a member anymore)

Anyhoo...to be disfellowshipped means you are not allowed to attend the Hall, and certain priviledges are taken away. Not sure what those priviledges are.

Michael and Latoya Jackson were disfellowshipped by the Witnesses.

Catholics don't disfellowship however they do have certain rules for you to be considered a "practicing" Catholic. For years the Pope did not allow birth control and some people who called themselves Catholic took it anyway. Those people could not take communion and other things in the religion but were still considered Catholic...just not "practicing" catholics.

Yes, the Catholics do have a process inwhich they can kick out it members. Its called excommucation. Only the Pope can excume a catholics. To excume pretty much means that you are going to hell in a hand basket. I recall an incident in history when the Catholics church was divided and there were two Popes. Both Popes kept excummucating the other. That was funny.

Anyway, NOI is any many regards a joke in my opinion. If anybody knows anything about African-American history they would know that the non-relgious principales used by the NOI came from Marcus Garvey and the UNIA. Elijah Mohammed whose real name is Elijah Poole was a high ranking member of the UNIA. He used the principals of the UNIA to start the nation of Islam. Futhermore, the NOI is not recognize by the Muslims in the Middle East.

If they want to kick Mike out then I suggest Mike find Jesus. Once Jesus accpets you in, he nevers lets you go. It does not matter what he has done.

see, when Malcom went to Africa, he was beginning to understand the differences in NOI and Orthodox Muslim. I think had he lived and gained power, he would have turned to Orthodox version years ago... Elijah's own son wanted to be Orthodox, and seperated from NOI after Elijah died in the 70's. It was only recently (late 80's early 90's) did Farrakhan agreed to turn Orthodox. But, I am not sure if this transformation totally took place.

Point blank, NOI is a hot mess and i am surprised it has survived this long.
