why do folks always wanna give their negative 2 cents when someone is trying to do something different?

for those that don't know...

i'm planning to quit my job, and go entreponegro. i tell folks it's to write a book and do some investing, but the truth is i need a break. i will write a book and invest, but there's more and less (taoist shyt going on there). i can afford to chill for a few months and i have a decent level of education and skill to jump back in the rat race if i need to. i want to homeschool my son and some other whatnots.

instead of a 'good luck' or a 'have faith' or a 'go for it,' folk wanna tell you the world is flat and give you the rocky horror show version of what may happen. and then i start to develop the i hope i don't give them a reason to say 'i told you so' fears.

support a negro for once. recently, only 2 folk have been like 'jump out there, and have fun' and one of 'em is a hush member 3000 miles away.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!

D,

I say go for what makes you happy and content. Don't let the comments or attitudes of others deter you.. I commend you on wanting to step out on faith and do something that you want to do....to keep the "what if's" away. I wish you all the luck and don't forget a sista at booksigning. :)

Davinci, Maaaan I know you know that times is hard. Been almost a year in recovery for me out here on the West coast. Downsizing isstill happening.

Just yesterday, my job sent 1/2 the staff home because it was slow? WTF? Oh, but they made me stay and work twice as hard. I'm grateful to have the lil pissy job, but dayyum..there is something going on here if companies are letting employees go home early do to slowness.

With that said, I do not know if this is the right time to jump out there, hell take a leave of abscence....for 3 months then that would save the job at least.

During the summer of 2000, I left Netnoir and was cool for like 3 months before I got another gig, but those were the FAT times and I was crazy paid...even showed up to Hushnic 2000 unemployed, but you would have never knew it..cause I had dollaz:D

Look, bottom line is..I wanna see you make it! I wanna see you doing your thing, but I also am sensitive to the economy right now and as your "Hush Brutha" I just wanna Holla at you about my thoughts...

Now, get ya ass out there and DO YA THING!!

Much Love and Luck!!!

Holla

Do your thing...life is all about risks and sometimes folks are afraid to see you go against the grain...they are even more afraid to see you succeed at it. I moved unemployed and I'm still unemployed :D but I'm Happy. Happier now than I've ever been...like Admin said...do what you gotta do FOR YOU!

DAVINCI,

You a Grown Ass Man. Do what you wanna do. Only you know what your finances will and won't allow you to do. I say go for it! If I could afford it I would do the same and take my ass back to school.

Do yo thang D. Don't let no one stop you with the negativity;)

The home school thing is a strong incentive to go for it. Those teacher supply joints have all the tools you need, and with computers in this day and age, you have a distinct advantage reaching your kid over the distractions that a child faces in school these days.

On the employment front:
I still think about where I'd be right now if I had taken the fat package the job was offering. I am going through a mortgage refinance now, but if that was done at the time, I would have been hard pressed to find a reason not to bolt. But I played it safe, even without having to worry about any kids to feed. I kind of regret it as the usual frustrations keep poking at me on the job, but then, with no job leads in this market, one that pays notoriously low anyway, a year from now may not look so rosy. I just remember the stock that my 401K purchases for me and take the hits. True, you never know until you try, though.

Just don't discount completely the concerns people have about what you propose. The end decision is yours, of course. I'm just saying that if these folks you talked to are people you trust, they do have your best interests at heart, don't they? Concern for someone may sound negative. There is also a world of "been there, done that" experience that can be tapped into. Go for your dreams, just do it with a little more prudence than Don Quixote. I wish you all the best.

I think most people would like to do what you are going to do but they are afraid to try. And so, they are projecting their own fears onto you. I don't think for the most part that it's malicous just that people oftentimes open their mouths without thinking of the effect their words may have.

If you can do, do it. What's the problem.

Hell, I wish I could too.

Let a sista know when you can do lunch during one of your off days.

technically i'm still on springbreak, but it's been uneventful.

i'm taking a few days to decompress. the book is flowing in an unorganized mess, but it'll be ok. i cashed in some mutuals and it's hard as a mofo to not spend this loot. i've blown a $100 and have no clue where it's gone. not worried yet. got some freelance gigs coming up.

waiting til after easter, my b-day and daylight saving (two weeks)to seriously hit the gym. been power walking with a buddy's mom. fam, why did my son beat me in a race down the alley the other day? OH IT"S ON NOW! next that little nigglet will think he can out swim daddy. ok, he's six, but i got's to nip it in the bud. plus i'm trying to be ramrod/mack/que strong at hushnic.

thanks fam for your encouragement.
