What sparked this thread is my coworker just paid cash for a 2006 Ford Mustang
shit i wanna be able to do shit like that. He didnt do it from his salary (we make the same), he has a wife and a 1 year old, his commission checks are WORSE than mine and he might be on his way out the door and he has enough to go purchase a car CASH like that?! Smart successful investments is the key
well...we smart folks. Why da hell dont we get together and form a serious investment club??? Much time as we spend together (or at least at the same site) we could be successful.
So Im standing here raising my hand saying YES i wanna join, and i wanna learn how to do it. Where are my financial savvy fellow hushians at so we can do this?

Its a lot too it Jaila, my parents was in one a few years back. They ended up disbanding it. I don't think they could agree on what stocks to purchase and so on.
It really sounds interesting, but as I said there is a lot to it. You would need someone who knew about purchasing stocks, and the tax laws, etc.

There are several black investment clubs in this area but they are all by invitation only.
One of my church members bought her house solely with money from her investment club. She too doesn't make a lot of money on her job, but she had a successful investment club.
I think it's a good idea IF we had someone who was knowledgeable and trustworthy.

Not to rain on your parade but being who I am I have to show the ugly side of this. It's a great idea, don't get me wrong on that. However:
For those interested in participating, currently do you have a saving account?
If you have a savings account is there more then the min to keep the account open?
Do you make regular deposites into your saving account? [i.e. 10% or $100 of your pay check]
Have you in the last 12 months withdrawn anything from your savings that was not an emergancy? [A new dress, lastest coach purse, strip club, rims ain't emergancys]
If you can not answer to the affirative to all these simple questions, trying to join an investment club is not for you. If you are currently living from pay check to pay check an investment club is not for you. I realise that we all live from check to check on some level or another but I'm talking about if you're company shorted your check or there is a mix up on the direct deposite your finicials are so tight that you'd be bouncing checks if you check wasn't there on payday. And I'm not talking about just once, I'm talking on a monthly bases you tight like that.
If you are in this situation, the first thing I would suggest is seeing where you could cut the fat from your monthly budget not add another committment. Because that is exactly what an investment club is a BIG COMMITTMENT that is usually for very specified amounts of money on a monthly bases for a min period of 12 months. I know I would be pissed if I was in an investment club where we missed opertunities to buy great stocks or bonds but can't because we can buy the min lot cause somebody decided to go to the club last weekend or buy some jeans or something stupid like that. Don't laugh cause the shit happens all the time in those "Usuccessful" clubs. The club is only strong because all of it's members have the same Vision and Committment to see the track though. And not change stratigies just cause the wind is blowing and they read in the Wall Street some company's hot this week.
Just my $1.68 on it
