Ok, I was thinking (and also doing some self-pity like wallowing in the personal morass of my broken heart that "hey, you should have known better kid!"). People should have schooled you on this. Moms, pops, older role models, etc. etc. Then I thought to myself...

Why isn't there a Big Instructional Book on Life written?

I mean, yes we do have the Bible. And the Bible is definitely tight.

But what about a plain English version that contains all the major issues that we deal with growing up. The book could start at say, age eighteen and work it's way up to the last years of a person's life.

It wouldn't be just one person's take on it. Instead it would be a bunch of vignettes, short stories, advices, and tips on what to expect, how to cope, and even how to avoid some situations.

For instance:

1) Going to college, Pros and Cons
2) After college, what do I do now?
3) How to manage your money
4) What do I really want to do with my life and how to find out?
5) Relationships with the opposite sex
6) Marriage
7) Having a child
8) Raising the child
9) Death of a loved one
10) Death of a parent
11) Retirement, getting ready for it, enjoying it
12) A life threatening illness
13) Divorce
14) Death of a spouse
15) Facing the end of your life...

I mean, I hear all the time "life doesn't come with an instruction manual", well, haven't like some 20 BILLION people lived throughout the ages!?! Isn't that enough people to put together something? Something definitive? Something that says "hey, I've been through this before, let me tell you what it's like, what you should think about before doing it and how to avoid the same mistakes I made".

Maybe it would make for a good coffee table book...

any thoughts?

My only thought is this.....

whatever doesnt kill ya, will make ya better....

and because there is no instruction book, thats what makes life so exciting :D if we all read this so-called book, Im telling ya, people would start wars about the proper way to interpret this so-called book...

Pain is there to help you grow..without it life would be extremely boring...so if there is struggle to overcome you can grow and experience life otherwise you dont grow mentally, physically or spiritually...you DO however build up the strength of your index finger 'cuz you sit on the couch all day wishing for a better life, just like ya see in the movies....

BTW
believe it or not, but the movie Alice in Wonderland is truely an instruction book on how to conduct your life....

You did just fine. Hell man everybody gets their turn. No man is above it. Just chalk it up to experiance.

look at it as though you've just stepped up to a new level in the game of love.

There are a slew of self help, relationship, child rearing, college, money managing, etc books. I guess all those authors need to get together and write one big book with vignettes from some everyday, working class people.

It will never happen:rolleyes:

If there was guide book for life we'd lose the variety and spice that makes everything and everyone unique.

DNS......you also know that if there was a big book on life that we humans would do it, just like we do any other advice or lessons we learn.......IGNORE IT......find some thing WRONG WITH IT.....and wait around and keep on doing the OPPOSITE OF IT until someone writes a thesis to revise the whole damn thing and then we'll be complaining that we need a book on the book on life....

such is a human's way.....

   Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.

What have you mentioned that the Bible doesn't cover??? You have to read the word, study the word, and meditate on the word and it will give you all the answers you seek.

I am shocked that the one Hush member who quotes the Bible more than anyone else is now suddenly looking for a book to help with a broken heart.

You are probably gonna get mad at me (again) for saying this but wasn't it you who told me that it's up to Christians to show the others the way. I just don't understand how a man of God could say "Why don't we have a book on life...except the Bible" WTH??? What else do you need???

i agree tastey...i thought he was referring to something more intuitive...more explicit....
while there are scenarios and situations in the Bible that tell us how to handle life's situations....some of those are strictly interpretation....not black and white so to speak. (at least not black and white to non-spirit filled folk)

My point exactly Que. I would expect a question like that from a non-spirit filled person...but DNS.

That's like Michael Jordan asking for layup tips. WTH???

Who would be the expert on life to proof read it.

How much will it cost. We tend to learn from other peoples and our own mistakes.

Also how many folks will read it. Do we have to put it on a playstation disc so people can play it on their game. score a point get a quote.

We can ask the successful people what they did.
We can ask the happy people how to be happy.
We can ask the freaks how to have interesting sex.
We just need to find the info.

A book like that would use too much paper..
