i got one today.

i will no longer be an administrative assistant.

but an Independent Living Advocate.

We work with people living with disabilities. most of the counselors have disabilities. if a counselor does not have a disability he/she is called an advocate.

so that is me.

i will assist people living with disabilties to a point that they are living independently.

independent living couseling, housing, info and referrel, independent living skills training and advocacy..the core areas we work in.

i gotta lotta training to do..and alot of testing....wow.

i was not expecting this in the least. the executive director says i got a lot of energy that is not being used doing admin assistant work...so he gotta put me where he can put it to better use.

i told him...that i was baffeld. that i thought id get fired first...he said "to be honest, so did i'

the ex. director and i dont always get along. he likes things his way. and thats it. i cannot stand that..esp when he is dead wrong. i see it happening alot with several of the other counselors. we have butted heads quite a few times since ive been there (it will be a year in october)..and he doesnt like the fact i say whats on my mind. he calls me defensive..which i am..but with him you have to be. ive learned to say no sir....and bite the mess out of my tongue. ive learned alot about myself and my temperment working with this organization.

i know i care about people. i love people. ive watched my mom go through life and prosper with her disability. so i know it can be done..however much more difficult it can be done. even myself..ive had obstacles that ive had to over come to prosper the amount i have. i think this will be good thing as far as what i do.

but...there's lots of paperwork, and stats, and crap ill have to deal with.

im excited..but still a bit baffled..i wasnt offered this job..i didnt know a single thing about it until this afternoon...when i went into his office and he was going on his little "theres going to be some changes going on" speech..I KNEW I WAS GOING TO BE FIRED..LOL...but instead...i was told that this is what im going to be doing.

i DID NOT get a raise...cause i actually make more money than the incoming counselors anyways. so i will still be working the second job.i figues the growth and experience..the training...will be rewarding enough.

Believe me it's a lot better to be noticed and moved to a more appropriate job for your skills and abilities than to never be noticed at all. Or only when you screw up.
