From today's EUR:
Mariah Carey
(Jan. 9, 2002) *On Monday EMI released a statement refuting reports that they agreed to pay Mariah Carey a lump sum to end their recording contract with her after "Glitter" sold a "disappointing" 2 million copies.
EMI was harshly criticized last year for paying excessively for a 31-year-old star, who critics say is past her prime, when it signed the four-album Carey deal, worth an estimated $57 million.
Now,I like Mariah Carey's music but is it worth 14 million per album? I don't know. It was previously reported that Whitney Houston received a 100 million deal,so 57 mil pales in comparison to that. It might not seem like it affects the average person but c.d. prices continue to go up every time I go in the music store. My question is,Is any singer worth that much money, and if so,who?????
