From a newbie's perspective(and yes I know you were all new at one point).

But from how I see things, the the impression I get on Hushnic(Present and Future)
is that it's about the people who have known each other for years and have attended one or all of them before, getting together continuing their bond.

As a newbie to the Hush, and attending a Hushnic, I need a reason OTHER THAN Hushnic to be taking time off from work, my kids, and spending money, than to sit around people that I'm unsure of, and who are unsure of me and have preconceived notions of me. Several people have already admitted if they don't like you online, they won't like you offline, and won't attempt to get to know you.

I thought that's what the purpose of HN was.

Unless it's held in Texas, Hushnic itself will be secondary for me. Location, scenery, and a general interest in visiting the location will be primary for my FIRST HN. Hopefully the one after, it won't be that way but I'm sure someone can understand where I'm coming from.

This poll thread is not the end all-be all thread, nor will this thread be THE deciding factor on where hushnic will be for 2006. Please dont get all up in arms about this as you will soon see this will be 1 of at least 3 threads regarding where hushnic will be. We go through this EVERYEAR with diff places posted and so forth.

My reasons for posting this poll was just to see what the majority of folks were feeling, based on the places mentioned the most in the other thread. 1 or 2 post mentioned Arizona, & tennesee and so forth I didnt post those cities as they weren't the majority. Although ATL was mention quite a few times, although we love ATL, we like to try diff places. Just like Va beach has been thrown out over the board, VA Beach is not one of the poll choice, that is not to say it will/wont be discussed.

Another factor with selecting a city, it's nice to have a least 1 hushmember who lives in that city or nearby. Granted I don't believe there was anyone from Orlando. But HUSHNIC like anything is a work in progress, each year we learn from the year before and it gets better.

With that said I just hope we can all come together and agree on a city, with out all the bickering back and forth. I would hope that as many folks who want to come to Hushnic and be apart of it, will come.

I would say that you should continue with "preliminary planning" as I am not sure when the official announcement will be made. It's the same every year . . . lots of momentum right after Hushnic that fizzles as the holiday season approaches. . .then it fires up again once folks start discussing tax refunds. . .then it fizzles again once folks have spent 'said' refunds. .

DC sounds like a cool spot. I was actually considering it for my summer vacation next year. The last time I was in the area was the summer before my 8th grade year. My parents thought it would be cool for me to learn about the constitution and governement first hand by visiting the places and this took place. I want to visit these places again as an adult because I had a ball as a child but now I think they would mean even more. Sit in on a session of congress, see the white house, visit the congressional library, the museums the monuments.
