the problem is that...
an US against them is naturally created from those that GO ...and those that don't GO.
so those that don't GO...need a further opportunity to bond while those that GO do the same.

Has it actually happened that there's jealousy between those that CHOOSE not to attend vs. those that do?
That is.....well crazy.

no, actually it doesnt.
in the past.....
there was an "I WISH I COULDA BEEN THERE"....but it wasnt jealousy per se.
more recently there was an "I'M GLAD YA'LL HAD FUN...NOW LET'S GET BACK TO HUSHIN" type vibe.....
but if u have TEAM A....and TEAM B.....just because you are on two different teams...doesnt imply jealousy...at all.

You really think so?
I've never felt that I've gotten any more into the "inner circle" by attending a Hushnic. Not that it was my intent either.
I have always been the first to say that attending Hushnic isn't that big of a deal and that you really don't miss much. . .honestly, it's not that fun-filled or action-packed that you need to feel bad about not attending.
Personally, I think the going down for maintenance is basically meant to be a punishment type of thing and if folks let it affect them that way then it's on them.
The Hush is already only so big which is evidenced by the active posters and to penalize people like that makes no sense to me but this is ONE MAN'S website and he can do whatever makes him happy.

Admin's frustration over the number of attendees further confirms that assumption.
I think it's deeper than just being frustration. I think it has something to do with if you're not there then by posting about it or not posting about it. . .you are casting some kind of pallor on the festivities.
Like I said, I don't know. . .just speculating here. I've been to 3 Hushnics and a few mini's here & there and I can tell you, in my opinion, it ain't that serious. Folks that are gonna go are gonna go, folks that aren't or don't wanna go, won't. Period.
We were down in Orlando and folks got online from the Hushnic and posted and it wasn't really a big brouhaha, people seemed to be happy we were having fun, wanted t-shirts, seashells, etc.
It wasn't about anyone hatin' on anyone or feeling left out, etc. so I'm not sure when after 5 yrs of the same festivities and with the same base of core members that it became about being an exclusivity that required the shutting down of the Hush.

Hmmm, I can respect that viewpoint about the bonding, etc. I probably need to go re-read last year's thread because I wasn't aware of any phone calling for up-to-the-minute details.
But the fact remains that there will always for one reason or another be folks that are left behind. . .my ass is more than likely gonna be left behind. And if so, I will be expecting my phone call as well as a Fed-Exed piece of cake (middle piece, light icing). . . :p
But I would still like the option to take the slow time to forage around in the archives and read some old shit if I wanna.

What I mean is that the idea of shutting down the hush appears to be a form of punishment to the non-attendies.
But from my latest read, Admin was just joking...so...uh...neva-mind. :D
Side note:
I don't have any doubt that Hushnic is a lotta fun. I had a blast at that regional that we had years ago. Hushnic would be a even bigger version of that. So I am cool with the whole hushnic thing.

I also think it was because of the cost for the house too.
and the DC folks, we had a special, buy 1 ticket get the 2nd free.
Valid points. . .the 2-FOR tickets and $50 lodging fee for 3 nights were the deciding factors.
That year there was 6-8 people from DC alone that's unprecedented and probably not duplicated since.

Las Vegas is not conducive to Hushnic, in my opinion.
You need to spend money to really enjoy the best that Las Vegas has to offer such as shopping, gambling, shows, museums, etc.
I realize it was a locale in the past but that year only about 6 people went and perhaps that could have been some of the logic in folks not attending. . . it wasn't conducive to a lot of folks budget and why go to Vegas half-steppin' and shit?
You can go to a gambling boat if you want to hear some cha-chinging slots.

I see your point.
I know that I do not see it that way.
Las Vegas is a great place to do...ANYTHING and EVERYTHING...and even NOTHING if you choose.
And things cost money, but there are some really cheap deals in Las Vegas.
My last trip to Las Vegas involved: 13 folks. We had a BLAST. There is so much to do and see, that everyone should be satisfied. And we can rent houses for pretty cheap too.
And if we go during the weekday...it can be even CHEAPER.

Oh okay, I'm not aware of house rentals but I suppose that is an option to explore.
Aren't the rates cheapest M-R? So that would mean hotel rates would go up for the weekend.
It's been a minute since I was there but it seems that there was a more optimal (read:CHEAPER) time to visit. I can't recall because I unsubscribed from all the emails.

It does not take a whole lot of money to go to Vegas. No more than anywhere else. You can easily get airfare from just about every major city for $150(or less).
There is alot to do and see. Everytime I go my excuse for going back is there was something I didn't get to experience that was on my list.
Shopping and eating.. you are going to do that no matter where the location is. It isn't any MORE expensive then anywhere else. Especially on the eating part.
Shows.... you can grab half price tickets the day of the show at the 1/2 price ticket outlet by MGM Grand.
Even on the weekend, downtown hotel prices are decent. If you want to stay at the Bellagio or Wynn, well yes it's expensive. But c'mon, if staying at a Holiday Inn in Vallejo or Days Inn in Atlanta sufficed, staying downtown at Golden Nugget or Fitzgeralds on a budget will too.

Briteness,
Maybe are are just boring and lack imagination? Who knows? It's just that there are way more things to do in Vegas than gamble and walk the strip. And most ov my visits to Vegas involved a lot of things...but gambling and waking the strip was not the only thing that I did.
And don't bother bringing up that "you haven't been to hushnic" red herring...you are trying to say that Vegas isn't good for hushnic. But what I see is that you are not really thinking out of the Vegas gambling/strip walking box.
But let's talk about Florida. What can you do in Flordia that you cannot do in Vegas...and proably do it cheaper? The flights costs are very predictable (to me 200 bucks give or take a few bucks...and you are THERE).
What can you do in Florida? You rented a house...and then what?
I have been to Vegas a few times...and I just waked the strip for the first time.
But, I understand your OPINON.
And it is my understanding that Hushnic is about the People....not the Place. So we should be able to have a good time no matter where we go. (except for the socially inept)

I have a sensitive spot for LV.. obviously.
As far as walking the strip.. who mentioned that? LOL I've been to Vegas 3 times in the past 18 months and still haven't walked the damn strip. I have no desire to either. Driving down it on my way to the hotel or to bypass 1-15 to get to 95 and head out to Henderson is the only time travel up and down it. But if people wanted to do that.. so what?
There still is no argument(unless you just lack impulse control and couldn't help gambling everytime you step foot somewhere) that Las Vegas is no more/less expensive then any where else mentioned for a Hushnic.

I've been to Las Vegas and I'm not a gambler and I haven't walked the strip in it's entirety either.
And sorry to keep saying it but yes, I've been to Hushnic and I think I'm qualified to speak on knowing the m.o. (modus operandi) and how things can and typically have a tendency of going down.
THEREFORE, it is BRIGHNTNESS' OPINION that regardless of what there is that Vegas offers. . .it doesn't mesh well with PROVEN TRACK RECORD of Hushnic agendas.
As much as I consider myself a traveller, I know how to make the most of out every outing I go on and I like to take full advantage.
However, just because something appeals to one or two individuals doesn't mean that it will appeal to the group as a whole and if that's the case. . .you can just take the trip in your spare/free time and not suggest it for a Hushnic.
I stick with my assessment. . .Hushnic in Vegas--not a wise choice.

By the way, I am not attempting to change your mind. I am just stating my point...and you are stating your point. Cool. Your MO wisdom is cool and all, but it is obvious that by your visits to Vegas, you still seem to have a rather short sided view of the place. Vegas has many things to do and is almost never the same thing twice (if you are open to take a stroll out of the casinos). The other side to this is that Vegas is very affordable. Heck, there are soo many timeshares over there that I bet that folks could even plan a free trip and stay in Vegas. So I understand that you are looking at how YOU can maximize the # of locals that you travel too. But I am looking at it from a cost/activity/location pov.
Aaaand. I agree about what appeals to some vs others. I am the last person to twist arms for places to go. I just don't know too many folks that don't like vegas. But Vegas is my vote. If we really want to choose a cool locale without considering money...then my vote will change to:
Hawaii (Maui)
Mexico
Cruise to Alaska
Cruise to Mexico
Cruise to the islands
etc.
