Well just letting anyone know who might have been interested in seeing me that I can't afford to come - I won't be harping on it - so don't worry :) I'm staying out the Hushnice threads all together.

I've got some for real ones this year. . .
1. I'm going to be approx. 2 wks. post-op and a bigger BEEEEYYOOTTTTCHHHHHH than usual.
2. I don't want to spend money that could be better spent in Europe and thinking "Damn, if only I hadn't gone to Hushnic, I could buy that _____ ". . .

I'm gonna finish off this bottle of white zinfandel and then decide if I need to move on to some Belvedere, Ketel One or Tequila.
And I've got a Macanudo that's dying to be lit up but I don't have any cognac so I may fool around and roll up some potpourri and puff on that.

1. I've taken too many trips already this year.... and still not done
2. The Grandparents are getting tired of babysitting...
3. No reasonably priced flights out of D/FW. Everything is in the $300+ range
4. Don't want to be the only newbie and be singled out

Yea but at least you were all newbies together. It would be nice to meet some of you. Maybe next year. The main reason though is the high airfare. If there is a NetSaaver for that weekend(they come out the week prior to departure) then I may make it.
Juicey, if I see something I'll let you know.

LOL @ HUshfam...
*I know this will not change shyt, but....*
Admin (and the rest of the Cali crew) spends more than $300 a year on airfare to travel to HN1-HN5. Remember in vegas, I bought 2 tickets cause wifey came? Am I rich? Hell no! LOL.
I know, I know......it's different for me...right? *as stated earlier, I know this will not change shyt, but I just wanted to be the first nigga from Cali to say that a $300 plane ticket is the norm for us*
Holla
PS: Have yall heard of:
Priceline or Hotwire???...there is still 4 paydays left.
HulaSista
06-27-2005, 07:02 AM
for hula:
vegas was $150, and thats alot for a one hour flight
orlando... $250 (it was a two for one... so me and another hush sista got lucky)
new orleans - $450
atl2 - $350
that's just hushnic flights. not including other outer state flights/train rides. $300 is normal.
************************************************** ***********
I'll make it easy for the one who don't want to say it
reason #12: these people aren't worth the money
reason #13: i never had / no longer have the desire to go to california
reason #14: too many gays in california
reason #15: what's a hushnic?
lol

I've never paid more than $300 for a domestic flight EVER.
So, I can understand that seeming astronomical for a w/e trip. . .now if we are talking to Jamaica or Puerto Rico that's an entirely different story.
MndBdySoul
06-27-2005, 07:35 AM
I've never paid over 250 for a flight...
Sept 2004 Vegas- 136.70
April 2005 Vegas- 218.00
July 2005 Atlanta(purchased for me as a b-day gift, but it was 198.00)
Sept.2005 D.C. 208.00
So yea $344 to get to Cali for 2 days is alot for me compared to what I'm used to spending.

06-27-2005, 09:09 AM
Well this is my 3rd flight
previous 2 were for HUSHNIC.
For me to come it's running $350 and thats to fly on a Thursday.
I think whats getting alot of folks is flight and hotel.....thats why i said if anyone wanted to share a room i'm cool, i'd be willing.
And honestly i think if HUSHNIC could be paid monthly like folks do for cruises, it would certainly be better for most.

So, are we getting away from the LAY-A-WAY mentallity that most of our parents instilled in us? My mother certainly used LAY-A-WAY when I was little. I saw it in person, I would often have to go with her to make a payment at a dept store.....little did I know that she was paying for a Xmas Bike in May.

For me it's not about not "having 2 nickels to rub together". It's about prioritizing what's most important, trip-wise and after some of the words that have been spoken, and unspoken about me, AND being the only newbie coming into an event where everyone else knows each other, I have a feeling it would turn out to be a waste of babysitting services for the weekend, a waste of money, and an unpleasant experience(feeling like the odd man out).
Ya'll will have blast whether there's 2 or 20 of you.

This is from someone who last year was INFAMOUS with talk similiar to yours - I can honestly say - let the reason be something tangible and not about being a newbie etc. There were people in that room who NEVER post but came to Hushic and there was absolutely NO DRAMA, I can speak of and I had a great time.
I came on not really understanding how an internet group can actually get together year after year and I projected alot of negativity due to my NOT UNDERSTANDING.
I was a newbie and I went and I still wish I had of been available for the entire thing!
So - due to the fact that I went where you are going - don't knock it till you try it. Ain't nobody interested in your 'status' on the board, unless you stank in person - then that's another story - but I met some cool ass people and I am mad I can't pull this off and I Might be able to pull a magic trick or two - cause it was alot of fun.

I'll answer. Truth be told it's hard to say. You would think that children pick-up the adult's behaviours, but it's really hard to tell. I'd say it's the same percentage if the parents weren't gay.

politically correct guess (ie: not my personal opinion): no
reason: i have a feeling that inspite of gay lifestyle, gays don't raise their kids to be gay ... but to feel free to be gay or straight. however, i wouldnt be surprised if i was wrong
heterosexual/christian guess: yes, but i have nothing to support this thought
politically correct stats:
As results continue to come in from the 2000 census, we have recently learned that one-third of the nearly 300,000 lesbian couples and one-fifth of the slightly more than 300,000 male couples who identified themselves as “unmarried partners” are living with children under 18. In conservative states, as many as 40 percent of the lesbian “unmarried partners” are raising children.
In fact, says the Washington Post, “43 percent of unmarried couples living together [including both gay and straight couples] are raising children, nearly matching the 46 percent figure for the nation's married couples. And the trend is climbing for unmarried couples, while it is becoming less and less common for married couples to have children living with them.”
The number of children with gay and lesbian parents is rising as more gays and lesbians take the mother (and father) road; and as more and more children of gay parents spread through the school system, straight parents will need to face the reality that their child's best friend may well have two mommies or two daddies.
from: http://www.indegayforum.org/authors/vanasco/vanasco14.html
politically correction of dispelling the myth:
Myth: Children of Lesbian and Gay Parents are Likely to Become Gay Themselves
Raising this as an issue highlights the prejudice that gay people face. While same-sex attraction is totally common to humans throughout history, and witnessed throughout the animal kingdom, some still cling to the notion that it is somehow “unnatural” — even though it is an integral part of nature.
Prejudice notwithstanding, the idea that a parent could force one orientation or another is nonsense, and completely unsupported by fact. It is, after all, from straight parents that most gay children are born.
Numerous psychological and sociological studies have shown that children raised by lesbians and gay men are no more likely to become gay than those raised by non-gay parents.
It is true that children raised by gay men and lesbians tend to be more aware of social differences and are more tolerant of others.
And, given the socially-driven hardships faced by lesbian and gay youths, the focus should be on parental and social support of lesbian and gay youth, not on whether lesbian and gay parents encourage their kids to be gay.

You know what, it wasn't that we didn't know or have an opinion but that our answers didn't meet his expectations and validate his stereotype about the Bay Area.
To answer this again, :rolleyes:I do know quite a few gay people raising kids - some sharing custody with former spouses and some in a same sex environment and their children are straight.
