A co-worker of mine died over the weekend. She apparently passed in her sleep on Saturday night, her brother who lives next door broke into her home Sunday afternoon when he did not hear from her all day. She was in her early 40's divorced with no kids.
This morning about 9:30 our manager gathered the whole company into the conference room and made this announcement. At this point none of us knew she was dead. They passed around tissues for those who were crying...gave special permission for a prayer to be said...then 5 minutes later said..."Okay let's all get back to work."
I didn't really know her that well...but Dayum! How do you just "go back to work" after news like that. :(

Dayum!! that was tacky and insensitive, If they were gonna take that approach why didn't they just send an email instead of gathering everybody together..

Some jobs just place a bulletin on the board & say nothing at all. At least they took time out. These jobs don't give a fuck about you.

My job sends out a mass email. If something like that happened within our department, then they may get everyone together in that department, but not the whole company, the company is TOO big, and everyone don't know everyone else.

I work in a very small office. There are maybe 35-40 people total here. Everybody either knows or knows of everybody else.
When I worked for a larger company we had a guy killed in a car accident and they offered anyone that knew him personally (and could prove it to some degree) the opportunity to go home for the rest of the day with pay.
The girl who sat next to this woman cried all day and they did not even ONCE say "Hey do you need to go home and get yourself together."
Heartless...just heartless.

That is why I do not let a job stress me because they do not care about you. They just need a warm body and unfortunatly once yours is cold they don't need you or want you around!!! I let my boss know that I have a life and it for damn sure ain't from 9-to-5. My life is from 5-to-9 which means any hours that I am not in that damn office!!!!
