I did this last summer. Briefly.

My assignment was taking calls from HSN. The way they pay you is how many minutes you were actually on the phone. Depending on what time of the day you are available and call flow, the amount you are paid doesn't amount to much. I think it was like 17 cents per minute. Most of the shifts were in 4 hour increments. I did it for 2 weeks and my check was 80 bucks. It wasn't worth it for me. Maybe I chose the wrong season. I'm sure it's much busier around Christmas time.

The good thing is you don't have to pay a set-up or processing fee. No money out of your pocket which is rare for these opprotunities. You just have to buy your own headseat for your phone and have a high speed connection.

i'd just love to get away from office politics

answer the phone in my pj's

hush in between calls without looking over my shoulder

be here when my child gets in from school

i'd stay logged in 8 or more hours

just would love the FREEDOM!

I used to do this for another company. I cannot think of the name for the life of me. I know I answered calls about shower filters and computers. I stopped b/c the timing had me sitting at the computer at like 3am. I can't even remember how much we were paid, it wasn't that much.

actually at 17 cents an hour if IF you are on the phone for 60 straight minutes equals to a little over 10 dollars an hour.

i cannot find a part time job paying that amount around these parts. shoot its hard finding full time jobs paying that amount.

u must have meant 17 cents a minute....

do u get paid for partial minutes?

what r the chances that u will be on the phone THAT long?

I got paid 17 cents per each minute of ACTUAL TALK time.

Per hour, I probably averaged somewhere between 20-30 minutes talk time. The calls are quick. Placing orders isn't at all in depth or involved.

It was a big time waster for me, but like everything, it works for some, and doesn't for others.

yes..excuse the typo.

ive thought of the prospect of not being on the phone for an actual hour...but even if im on for 30 minutes an hour..not having to pay additional childcare..actually probably will balance things out for me. partial minutes are considered whole minutes.

I reapplied and just completed the phone interview.

They are looking for weekend hours again, which is cool with me.

I'm about to start the training.

I will update as things progress as to how successfull it is.

With gas being almost 2.50/gal now the amount I save in commuting could make all the difference for me.

Hmm I need to reread this post and put my app in. I can do this, I'm not doing anything for the most part on the weekends. Might as well make some kinda extra money. I sure could use it.

See that's my feeling. I spend my weekends either at my Mom's chillin or at home chillin. It's rare that I have major plans.

And since I'm quitting my church choir (long story) I won't have rehearsals on weekends either.

An extra $50 a month would help out. lol :p

I've completed the training successfully.

Yay me!!!

My next step is to wait for them to do the background check and if I pass that then I can start signing up for hours to work.

I found the training to be fairly easy as I've done nothing but customer service for the last 15 years. The principles are all the same.

The only things I really had to learn was how to navigate their system.

I just got the contract which means I passed the background check. Considering I got fugged up credit and was actually in trouble with the law last year it must not be too extensive. lol

My next step is to download the software, accept the contract, and begin work.

Now comes the real truth. Seeing how many hours are realistically available and how many calls come in.

Since customer service is my background I used to average 100 calls per day in an 8 hour day at Verizonwireless. If the calls come in, I'll take them.

I'm hoping since we are heading towards the holiday season, that folks will start to flood 800 lines for orders.

I will be back periodically with more updates.

Update:

I'm taking calls now...and HUSHING. :D

Right now I'm on the American Red Cross line taking donations...very simple. Paying 27 cents a minute.

So far so good.

Update:

I got my first paycheck on last friday. Considering it was only for 1 days work I was pleased as doing this has not cut into my time hardly at all.

The Red Cross calls were high payers, but most of the calls I take are only 17cents a minute but generally if I sign up the calls will come in. It's rare that I'm on and not taking calls.

One drawback. Having to open my computer for remote access makes it very vulnerable. I'm having to run my anti-spy ware sweeper at least 2x a day. The virus protection is there, because they are protecting their system. But the spyware is getting through.

I also found out that they offer insurance benefits at comparable group rates. If a person is able to get an 8 hour work day in (which so far I haven't cus the hours are just not there) then it is feasible to work as a fulltime job.

However, I'm training for some other areas so in the future I may be able to get in 8 hours or more a day.

If I were to do that I think I'd set up a seperate computer and phone line to do it on instead of my personal system.

Latest Update:

I've been doing this for a few months now so I'm back with another update.

Calls are really slow now. They keep saying they will pick up as the holidays grow closer and they are actually paying 20-27 cents per minute lately but the calls are really slow.

They also have a big hiring blitz going on with accounts for the lack of call volume due to them gearing up for the new year.

I'm making enough to stay afloat but not what I'd like to make.

I've come to dislike the whole performance issue. They tell you every call is monitored but in the past few months I have not received even ONE call monitoring feedback. NOT ONE. That bothers me because I think I do great on the calls but they are not recognizing it.

The other thing is schedule adherence. It's wack. Yesterday I worked from 10:30am until 5pm. That's what I was scheduled for. My schedule adherence is 75%. WTF?

This happens all the time. When I contact them they say "Thank you for reporting this issue, please keep accurate records in case adherence becomes an issue blah blah blah."

The other thing is if you have a true emergency you can't cancel your hours. Last pay period when my Mom got rushed to the hospital I missed all of my hours that day, then a few days later my son's school bus was in a wreck and he was taken to the ER and I missed MOST of my hours for that day.

On a regular job you could call and say what happened and be excused. They don't excuse ANYTHING. You must cancel 24 hours in advance or your schedule adherence is screwed.

It will take me 2 weeks to rebuild my schedule adherence after getting two 0% in one week.

But hey...I ain't starving so I'm sticking with it.

Sorry I'm just seeing your post.

No schedule adherence does not affect pay, however if you don't maintain a certain schedule adherence you can be released from contract.

Since Zuri asked about work at home stuff I will update my experience with them. Going on 2 years but now it's mainly part time. I work enough hours to stay certified but not much more.

My weekends are more hectice now than they were when I started so I don't have the time to do it even part time.

But over the past few years while I was working off/on it paid the bills. Along with some royalty checks and a few temp positions here and there, it's how I managed so I can't say anything bad about it.

Alot of new easier clients. Pizza Hut, taking pizza hour...per minute rate has been as high as 25 cents and it's ALWAYS busy on weekends.

The insurance lines were also really profitable when old folks had to switch over on their medicaid. Simple calls, easy money.

Only drawback for a stay at home Mom is you cannot have background noise. No babies crying, dogs barking or kids yelling. I retreat to the silence of my home office but if that is not possible it could be an issue.

do the pay "under the table" i wish i would have read this sooner. i probably would have stayed home, instead of returning to work early.
