Do you practice a double-standard where your children are concerned?
You know, your son can stay out until midnight, but your daughter needs to be in with the street lights.
Your daughter can hit your sons, but your sons can't hit her back (my personal favorite growing up LOL).
You give your sons condoms, but you'd kill your daughter if she were caught kissing a boy.
What do you think of double-standards in raising male and female children?

double standards are no good ...... for kids or adults....
just like you smoke cigars and you tell your kids not to smoke....to me things like this make no sense and cause confusion in the children's minds......
confused kids make confused adults and the cycle continues....

I only have one child, a girl so I can't comment on a different set of rules for girls vs boys. But I will admit that I do use "don't do as I do, do as I say." So I guess that means I'm guilty of the "double standard."
The world is full of double standards. You treat your younger child different than your older child. That's just the way it is. I think though the key is your mind set while making the decisions..

If the double standard is correct for instance like not hitting girls then it's a parents duty to teach the child right. Daddy is an adult & made the decision to smoke cigars. When Baby is an adult he or she can make their own decision.

I think some double standards are neccessary (boys hitting girls) *that was my favorite growing up to Sea LOL ;) * The fact is boys and girls cannot be raised exactly the same because they are simply different. However other double standards are not neccessary and just border on ridiculous.
I have a neighbor who's 23 yr old daughter has a 12:30 curfew and her 17 yr old son can have overnight guests in his room. WTF???
Of course the parents reasoning is that "boys don't get pregnant" but that's just a cop out. It takes 2 to make the baby it should be 2's responsibility to raise it.
I think that's why a lot of young men run out on their responsibilities because their parents teach them that the baby is the girl's parents responsibility not theirs or HIS.

thats easy, tastey...they give her a ridiculous curfew because she is a grown ass woman and needs to get out on her own....they don't want her to be too comfortable!

That's been her curfew since she was 16. Besides that if you want her out...be a grown ass woman and tell her. Why play control games.
Besides that the girl is kicking in money for bills. That's just creating unneccesary tension in the family.
Why not simply say. You are grown you need to pay your OWN bills and not help pay OURS.

It's not about her not wanting to leave.
She could easily leave. She makes more money than her father. It's the principle of the situation.
She follows their rules, because they are her parents. If she left. Some of their bills would not get paid. So she stays and helps out. They disrespect her in return.
But hey that's her dumbass. Right?

The details don't matter.
The thread is about double standards. They treat her this way because she is FEMALE.
As I said her 17 yr old brother who does not work, can do whatever he pleases...because he's MALE.
If he were 23 and helping to pay bills, he'd have free reign over the house. Hell he already has free reign over the house simply because he was born with a penis.
If she were 17 she'd STILL have a 12:30 curfew. It's not about being an adult.
It's about treating your child differently because one if male and the other is female.
That's the point Que.

It's cool that she's making her money and helping her parents out.. That's all good.. But she has a 12:30 curfew!!! What the hell is that all about?!?!
Sorry... Seems like they need to show her some respect too.. But then again.. She puts up with it..
One thing's for sure...Her men friends don't have to worry about her popping up cause she ain't allowed to leave the house!! ;) :p
