my understanding is that it is a way to put dvd movies and burn your own videos....

PRE-dvd-rw days.

you get the movie off the net...

do the stuff to it...

then....

copy it to cd....

then put it in your dvd player...and hopefully it will work.

try this site if u r really curious....http://www.vcdhelp.com/

mack maybe i could get you to burn me some movies? i'll pay.

Bascially you are right Que....a VCD is a Video CD..and the website you refer to is the website to help anyone that want to learn more about this...

using morpheus and/or other file sharing programs you can down load mpeg quality movies...I mean the latest movies...but I have an inside scoop and fat pipes.... :D

mpeg quality is VCR quality..

then by using ez cd creator 5, which has the VCD capability you can burn the movie onto the CD. As long as your DVD player can play VCDs you have a VCR quality movie...usually a movie will fit on two CDs

Now SVCDs are Super Video CDs which approach the quality of a DVD movie...however you have to take that mpeg movie and convert it to mpeg2, a higher quality standard. There is freeware on the net to do this, then you use Nero 5.5 to create the SVCD.

now folks this aint trivial, as you learn how to do this, you will fuck up a few CDs..but now-a-days they are so cheap....

NOW they are selling DVD-R and DVD-RW....there is one company that has a box that does it all DVD-R/DVD-RW/CD-R/CD-RW for about 450...so now you can get a DVD and record it. The DVD media right now is $2.50....The DVD can hold up to 5 Gigabytes of data....and you dont have to just put movies on it...it could be an extra drive for you to save all kinds of stuff to....pictures, software, music, mp3s, etc.....

I may set up an ftp server for a period of time and let y'all download the movies that I have ....but ya gotta have a fast connection..otherwise it will take all day to download just half of the movie....I'll keep y'all posted...

dammit....the nero that i have is saying that i gotta go out to their website and get the codec....for a fee!!!damn! but it is creating vcd's just fine!

for those that aren't aware...the difference in quality between vcd and svcd is like from a regular vhs to a dvd....sometimes.

tonite i have downloaded:

monsters inc
matrix (already watched)
behind enemy lines (yes the new movie)
joy ride
the grinch
the wash
ghost of mars
13 ghost
shrek
dracula 2000
zoolander
some jake steed flicks
some booty talk flicks

i know guys that have entire harddrives (20-40gig) full of this stuff...now I know why....

unfortunately....My first VCD ...took me 5 hours to make! 4:45 of encoding the files.

ask a question brite...u will get an answer.

there is no work involved....just click...and walk away...come back to check on it in 2.5 hours...then again when it is done. This isn't running a farm...or doing construction like sinnah.

I still have yet to use my CD-R to burn a CD. . .what does that tell you?

Maybe I'm just thinking it over too much and making it more complicated than it should be. . .

I dont know what you are doing but 5 hours is waaaaay to long......

I burn VCDs in 15 minutes doing it 4X speed.....and that is extremely slow...because I have a USB connection to the burner.

with a firewire connection I can burn a VCD or SVCD in 2 minutes, burning at 16X speed........

so something is grossly wrong with what you are doing.......

que90nek

burning is quick...but are u downloading movies that are already ENCODED? it is the encoding of the mpeg that takes the 5hrs per movie.....

if u are downloading already encoded movies...pls say where?

mack_black
12-06-2001, 10:45 AM
ok......you have a point there.....

Im getting encoded movies (mpegs)....but if I tell you then I break a trust.....
and I could lose my privelege.....and I never break trusts :D

again...I am planning on setting up an ftp site for those who are interested in getting some of this stuff.....

last night I picked up spygames :D

I'm hooking up (one of my) Christmas presents to myself a CD player with 5 disc resume. . .I think that means I can play those types of movies you two were talking about. It says it has DVD, Video CD, Super Video CD, Audio CD & MP3. It also says it's CDR-R & CD-RW compatible. . . . Err, what's all that mean?

I'm on a dial-up through AOL, I could hardly download from Napster in less than 30-60 minutes for one song. . .I am planning on getting DSL in January so I will be back posting for instructions on how to download movies.

Mack and Que...I have been looking into this aspect of burning. Taking it to the next level (so to speak), but I'd be selling these VCD's and most folks (clients/customers) don't even have DVD's at the crib....so, I'll be sitting up here with 50 copies of BabyBoy collecting dust.

For now, I'll stick to Burning CD's:D Oh and I like the new: Terapin CD Video Recorder. Price= about $429.99

http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/zoom/video-cd.jpg

The Terapin CD Video Recorder is as simple to use as a VCR - all you do is put in a blank CD-R or CD-RW Audio disc and you can record straight from your camcorder, from broadcast programs, or transfer old recordings from video tapes to CD. Play the CD on all multimedia computers, VCD and DVD players that can play CD-R's and CD-RW's, and of course on the Terapin CD Video Recorder.

=============
Q: Is this a viable option?
Q: I own a Dazzel Digital Video Creator and I have it hooked up to my DVD...so does this mean I can record straight in to my HD in Mpeg2 mode and burn a movie on to 2 CD's??

If so, I might try it..

Holla

I don't know what a Dazzel is...but if you get it into mpeg2 format...you shouldnt have any problems.

looks like this product picks up where software leaves off...providing some hardware to accomplish what others are tryin to do via software only...damn good looking product and from my readings...it does support mpeg2 and even mpeg4....whoa!
looks good....
u gonna be editting that seriously?

Admin

On the specs page at the companies website...the model I have only does MPEG1, but I might be mistaken.

Naw, I will not be doing any editing:D I bought this to post the video of Hushnic 1 on DD.com.
