Yesterday I got a call from the Controller of a different division in my company. He said he called to ask me the name of the company I last worked at. I told him, and he simply said thanks and have a good day.

So yesterday I kinda didn't think about it much (swamped with work), but today it really has me questioning why he would ask me something like that.

Any ideas on this one?

Maybe he's job hunting.

That kind of shit is nerve racking.

I say just let it go and keep it in the back of your head.

I wouldn't call. What reason would he have to tell you anything, especially the truth.

He caught you off guard. The question as to why should have came before the answer.

I would have given the name first, just like you did, to show I have no reason to be secretive, but I definitely would ask what's up. I hate that they would say goodbye when its obvious that someone would want to know why. I think they get off on it a little.

This is second on my pet peeves list only to the many people that call, if you are in a position to be answering someone else's phone, and ask for the person without identifying themselves. It seems to be the agreed upon dance in companies.
