Andre's Signature line says:
It seemed that Marlon was made to wear a hat a lot, or do something to distinguish himself from Michael. What, so the White folks won't think they're twins? Also, was care taken to not always center Michael in the picture, or was the cohesive feeling that they were all equal in the group sincere in the early days?
Ok, first thanks for the great pictures. They are my display on my computer at work, lol
Second in the current picture you have up - Mike actually is NOT even standing with the group. It seems that Motowns way has been the same - first put the group together, then put the main person out front, then put the main person exit stage left. If you look at Dian(e)a's pictures with the supremes it follows the same pattern, lol
As well as Marlon actually WAS a twin, who died at birth and since he and Mike are like 10 months apart or something - they did do things to distinguish him from Mike, however, Marlon has been the worst dancer out the group since day one - so actually there was no need to distinguish him, lol

There was a twin named Marlon? I missed that trivia. Or am I missing humor?
Also, I hear what you're saying about Motown's planned posing, but in this, he is as close as Marlon is to the rest.
You're right about Marlon's dancing. He had this favorite move, where me would life one led way up, while he clapped his hand...it looked so retarded!
Since you strated a thread based on that pic, I'll post it so it stays because my signature tends not to stay for long.

No, Marlon is a surviving twin. Him and Mike are very close together in age.

Marlon had a twin? I never heard or read that. I guess I don't know as much as I thought about them.

Yep he's a surviving twin. Randy Tamborelli <sp> is THE SOURCE for the complete Jackson history and wrote a very good book about them. I will have to wait till I get home to get you the exact title.
Apparently there are some 'tapes' made by someone during the Victory 'Tour and they have been stolen and probably will (hopefully) be sold. I would LOVE to see some behind the scenes things about them.

Yeah he's the surviving twin and the reason I missed the question on Admin's J-5 trivia contest on dailydiva. I counted the twin and Admin said he'd never heard of him. Hmph. lol
Pam one of these days we are gonna have to have a Jackson's trivia challenge and see who knows more...me or you. lol :p

Dre that first picture is of them when they first got started and they used thier cousin as the drummer.
The second one was part of the publicity shots for the J5 album. If I'm not mistaken these set of photos were used in an Ebony magazine Spread.

Chey I think that black and white was before the appollo when they were doing talent shows. Though I think thier cousin playing with them ceased after that appollo performance, lol

It was from their days on the circuit in and around Gary Indiana. They were not rank amateurs when they hit it big. Everybody played their respective instruments. I remember at a live concert, they would jam in long instrumental interludes between hits. It 's odd that neither Jermaine or Tito ever broke out as a guitar or bass artist. The original early group was called Jackson 5 and Johnny, with Johnny, as Pam said, being their cousin on drums. When they were making it big, they dumped their cousin, and he never got a dime of the ensuing success. I think the info was that he was in on that audition session that Berry Gordy shot in Black and White, perhaps even the first flash of fame, without the name credit of course. I guess the idea of a group of brothers was more appealing. Word is, Johnny was cut soon after and was left to fall into drugs and alcohol addictions and I may be wrong, but I think he died penniless on the streets? I say that with a question mark because I am trying to find the CD that had this cover and liner notes. It's a collection of their rare recordings when they were unknowns back in late 60s.

They actually auditioned for Gladys Knight prior to all that. Berry Gordy and Suzanne Depass just felt that if they were listed as "Diana Ross presents The Jackson 5" it would push their careers much further.
And those outfits were made by their mother, who made all of their performance outfits prior to them signing with Motown.
Johnny was originally included because it was a "family" act. I think he was around for a short while playing the drums with no billing, and eventually they went to using studio musicians alot more although in the original days they played all their own music.

I started out thinking I was older than Michael, then come to find out they were lying about his age, because making him seem two years younger enchanced the marvel at his singing prowess. All I could think was damn, he's older than me!
