I love my short hair cut, but I think I want to accessorize a bit coming into the new year - so me and my beautician have been discussing the 'quick weave' and I've seen her partner do one, where you on the stocking cap and they weave it right there. It only costs $60 down here and we go over to the hair store together to pick out the hair and color etc.

Has anyone on the board had one before? Anything I need to know other than it will probably eventually start itching like hell, lol

My neice had one. It looked really nice and she said the itching wasn't really bad. The main thing was it didn't last very long. (2 week - 3 tops) before it started looked matted and worn out.

I thought a quick weave was when they gel your hair down then glue the tracks onto your hair?

I have never had one, but I bet that it will itch like the dickens if you keep it up too long.

Yea my hair dresser said 4 weeks if you wrap it up at nite in the satin bonnet. I've seen several girls come in and get it and I've seen some where I didn't even know it was one, lol

I gotta get me a hair book, cause I do something that my own texture hair can't do. I know I'm getting some color up in there somewhere, lol

This is what I had. I had the Flip. It didnt itch at all. I loved it. It's worth it, it does only last 2-3 weeks, which by that time you are ready for something new anyway.

There are many options to the Quickweave (which really isn't quick at all)...

1. the first one is where you gel the hair down on the head, then glue
the "hair" onto your head cut and style...(last about 2-3 weeks)

2. A stocking cap is placed on the head and Hair applied with glue to it or sewn on

3. Hair is braided back into 4 french braids...net is applied to hair (sewn) and then hair is sewn onto the net.

All of these options are just like buying a wig...you can put it on and off.
I have been wearing "partial wigs". The have a comb in the front, side and back...you leave a portion of your hair out in the front, tuck the other hair under the cap...comb the hair over the front and roll out. This is my Quick weave...10 minutes.

I got a couple of falls. My hairdresser - gels your hair puts the cap on, you sit under the dryer then she glues the hair to the cap and then style. We can't take them off - cause that glue seeps thru to your head, lol I've seen them take them off and it involves hair sheen and a blow dryer, lol

And that is too harsh for the hair. To remove the glue you need to use the "remover" that is made for the glue. Applying more heat to the glue only makes the glue melt down on your head...

what I do is go along the glued tracks with the remover and let it penetrate and it for a minute or 2 then just lift it off....then you really have to comb through the hair to get the "glue" off of the hair...followed by a good shampooing.

See that's why I do alot of my own 'preparlor' work, lol. I've never seen a 'remover' being used. I've also seen razors being used, but her hair was sewn in and the girl was breaking the thread and cussing cause that gal had that weave in wayyyy to long, lol lol

HATED IT!!!

It was hot and bothersome and I kept wanting to take it off!! LOL LOL I felt like my head was sweating and I had a film of green mold or something growing.

It stayed in two weeks and I took it out and went back to my style and IMMEDIATELY got my mojo back!!!

Never again. I am a braids, wig and track sista - that nonremoval wig is NOT for me - but hey I experimented and I think I likes my own hair!

Never got a quick weave, but years ago, i got a weave for my girlfriend's wedding. It was cute and sexy then the very next week I wanted to scream! I may get a weave one more time, but for a special occasion only.

Hey Hula - Happy New Year.

I just didn't like the 'wiggish' aspect of it. If I were to get a sewin or something I think I'd like that more but now I'm just rocking Pam and what came out her head, lol

My friend was like "Uh Pam - you usually wear a fur around your shoulders" Talk about the jokes, lol lol

The best I can do in terms of the 'wig' effect is braids. And I hate getting those done too, but, its a better option for me.

Weaves seems to be a luxury maintenance; meaning if you can afford to get it done and get it done right, then its a great idea.

I want to think that its a good hair preservation technique - or - a good way to reduce maintenance on your own hair so it can grow, but don't know if that's true or not. If it isn't, then what hair styles/techniques/tools are good for this.

Hula I agree that the less wear and tear you place on your own head, certainly gives it a rest but to me unless you are wearing a bone strait weave or curls they are alot of maintenance. I mean it took me upwards of 30 minutes to curl that shit daily and even when I had long hair it didn't take that long. I mean now I just get up and go, a few run thrus with the spike comb and walah, lol That was my biggest thing - i was spending to much time with my hair!

I had a good one with quaility hair, but I just didn't like the fact that it was glued to my head. If it were tracks where it intermingled with my own or braids that can be manipulated or a wig that I could take off at nite it was cool. It wasn't itchy though but then again I don't have a very itchy scalp.

In terms of the best styles, I'm sure Deja or Foxe can speak to that because each woman's head is different. I know braids can mess with your hairline etc. if they are done to tight or the weight of them is too heavy etc. So I think outside of just leaving it alone everything wears on your hair.

I have done glue and tracks...take the patience of Job and a lot of baby oil or glue remover and a small comb to get all that glue out.

I have had a sewn in weave where your hair is braided and the tracks are sewn into the braids. I usually do this when I am going on vacation as it can get wet and such.

I have given up on weaves for the most part because I love to scratch my head.

Hello, I have a question about quick weaves. Can anyone explain how to do a quick weave with the stocking cap or point me to a website that has all of that information. Thank you very much.

That is something that only a professional would now how to do...I suggest that you go to one and have them do it for you....I can't tell you because then I'd have to kill you. :)

you can do a quickweave yourself, it's real simple:

1: comb/brush your hair into a ball at the nape of your neck (like how you ball it up to put a ponytail on)

2: gel and spritz your hair and blow dry it until it's completely dry

3: glue the tracks on as if you were gluing them to your scalp

4: cut and style, and it should last for at least 2 weeks

> i made a couple of my own, and they turned out 2 cute, you can't even tell, only difference is i used a stocking cap (but on a foam head) b/c my hair's 2 long to ball up

> don't do a quickweave where you glue the tracks on the stocking cap while it's on your head, because you can't take it off, and your head itches like crazy, you feel like you have a mold growing on your scalp; and when you finally do take it off after 3 weeks, there's the nastiest buildup of dead skin on your scalp, and the glue takes 4ever 2 get out (and it breaks your hair out real bad)

This is OH SO DAMAGING TO THE HAIR....Never put glue directly on your hair at all.

Works wonders during the summer and on vacations... Wear your own hair during the day, go to the pool/beach, wash hair, throw on quick weave - hit the club! :upretty

I have been putting in my little weave for almost a year now. I grew my hair out for the wedding and then wanted some fullness and with my love of messin round in my own head - I just kept going.

I have gotten to the point where I can put parts and what not and due to my hair texture, I can find hair that really looks good and is not blaring fake.

The hubby likes it when I go into the bathroom for about 30 minutes and come out, lol lol

Sakinah has been cutting my hair for awhile. She cuts the length once I get it in to something more realistic and then I go and tighten it up so it doesn't look crazy.

I am concerned about the whole 'glue' thing - but I keep them in for about two to two 1/2 weeks and then I first put the glue remover and slide the tracks, then I put the glue remover shampoo and just let it sit for awhile. I buy a dozen or so of those cheap small combs from the beauty supply to get the glue out my head, since it sticks to the comb (I just keep them around for this use). I don't lose alot of hair, but I have noticed my hair is uneven a little around the crown. I am not overly worried because I intend to cut it all back off soon as I get some of this roundness out of my face, lol

I will spare you all the photo shoot, lol

brush/comb and go...slowly but surely upgrading the hair...right now it runs me about $50.00 a pack...my stylist is trying to get me to order the $400.00 dollars..it's resuable...last forever...but it's hard for me to phantom...paying more than $100.00 for some hair:eek:
