View Full Version : The Middle East and Us...

You know what, I've always tried to stay up on world events, particularly the Middle East. And lately, it looks like things are pointing to all out war over there.
Now, I'm not a Jew or a Muslim, so my understanding of the conflict is one of book knowledge only. I don't have a heartfelt or generationally influenced understanding of the dispute. But I know this much:
anytime a person will walk into another person's church with a bomb strapped to themselves and kill themselves, other worshippers and little children, the situation is crucial.
The tie to the U.S. is serious. Although this stuff happens halfway around the world, we are intimately involved in this situation. If there is ever a World War III, it will be ignited by events in the Middle East.
For instance, the Middle East hates the U.S. (or the Great Satan) as they refer to us because we support Israel. We supply them with weapons, defense and economic aid. We also support their claim to the original land of Palestine (which Jews, Muslims and Christians consider sacred). However, Russia and other communist countries have supplied weapons and aid to Iraq, Iran and the Afghanistans (all sworn enemies of Israel and the U.S.) China has stated in the past that a U.S. attack on countries that Russia and other communist regimes have aided will be considered an attack on China. This is serious stuff and could lead to war if the wrong things happen.
What do you guys know or think about the Mid East Conflict and what effect do you think it has on the U.S.?

I think that all you've said are valid concerns however at this point they are not concerns of Tastey's.
What I mean is that there is virtually nothing I can do about the situation other than pray so I really don't spend alot of time thinking about it or speculating on it.
IMHO because of the Atom bomb I don't believe there will ever be a WW III. There is too much at stake all around. If anything happens I believe it will be of the severity of the Gulf War maybe a little larger. Not to minimize those events but I don't think that we will ever see every country at war again all at the same time.

another World War is a prophecy in the Revelations.
And your comment is exactly what I mean. This situation is something that we should be watchful of. The war in Europe was no concern of ours either until Japan dropped a bomb in our backyard...
We need to pray on this situation over there because we are deeply involved

I already said I need to pray about Shod...what else do you really think I can do? For that matter what is Shod doing about it...except worrying. Worry is sin my brother.
As far as the WW III in Revelations...to quote you my brother. Chapter and verse please...chapter and verse.

I'm not worrying Tastey...I'm just saying that we should be more interested in the events happening over there.
And as for the chapter and verse, I'll get them for you. I don't have my Bible here. But that's what the Revelation is about. The four horsemen of the apocalypse, etc. One of the Horsemen brings war with him...

We do need to be interested however that interest can only go so far. I read about in the paper, magazines, whatever.
Then I move on to more pressing issues.
I'm not saying it's unimportant...on the contrary. I'm just saying that there are more pressing issues in my life right now.
Now if you have a plan of action for doing something...a letter writing campaign to Senators about the US policy, or a prayer chain, or whatever...say so.
Otherwise it's going to stay on the back burner.

The U.S. & the United Nations is responsible for the problems in the middle east. After World War 2 to give Jews a fresh start after the Holocaust, Israel was given to the Jews except one thing Muslims have lived there for millions of years. Muslims have every right to be mad. How would you feel if someone gave your home to someone else? Most cultures are very passionate about their beliefs & will die for them. Every nation points the finger at us cause we are on top so one day they will try to gang up on us so we need to pay attention.

however, I don't think the U.S. or the U.N. have started the conflict. I think the U.S. and U.N. did the right thing.
The land was originally Israel's. Then persecution and wars pushed them out of it. Then the Muslims inhabited it and have been there for about a thousand years. However, the Muslims (the radical ones) are upset that the Jews are there. They want them out even though both cultures can share the land. But I strongly believe that the U.S. did the right thing in helping Israel establish a national identity and help them back into their homeland.

you know......this been on my mind for a while.
I read a book "Are we living in the end times" by Tim LaHaye that explains this very thing and others.
I recommend this book to anyone.....read it....you'll find yourself caring (instead of worrying) about these things around us more than you thought you could.....

Thanks for the tip Hula, I am going to peruse the shelves for that one right now.
I have always looked at the situation in the Middle East with fear and worry.

The re-establishment of Israel as a country is one of the Bible's major prophecies regarding the end times.
Now, this is nothing to be afraid of and we shouldn't worry about anything (God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind...). The return of Christ is nothing of which to be fearful. But Ezekiel and Jeremiah are full of references to the U.S., Israel, etc. etc.
The vision of the dry bones come to life that Ezekiel had is a prophecy of Israel's return and the return of the Messiah. Christ tells the Pharisees that the return of Israel marks the final "generation". Jubilee Years and restoration is also important to note (it's been right around a Jubilee Year since Israel was reestablished).
Anyway, the whole thing is pretty deep. If this kind of stuff interests you, you should check out some of the writings of Dr. Hilton Sutton.

Why are we as Christians supposed to be so interested in the end of time or Christ's return?
I've always been taught to be ready for no man knows the day or the hour and it's really not something I find alot of concern with. Either you ready or you ain't....I honestly don't know what watching the signs is supposed to accomplish.
My grandmother used to say that people had been predicting the end of time since her mother was a child. My grandmother is dead now and if she was alive she'd be well over 80...so people have been predicting the end of time for centuries... why?
You could die today...and time end tomorrow...what difference does it make? Like I said before either you ready or you ain't. PERIOD!
Could you shed some light on that for me?

dns, i cannot believe you have the audacity to say that palestine (or middle east, depending on where you call it from) belonged to israel first. god promised the land to the jews, however, i don't believe god gave the jews the right to enforce HIS promise. and, promises have a way of voiding out once the promisee destroys the covenant, such as killing others like they were killed in germany, planting people inside palestinian communities to disrupt their way of life...oh, and did you even notice that all members of the police are jews/israelis in jerusalem? the muslims are treated horribly and the christian palestinians are treated worse.
yes, the US has MUCH to do with the situation...after all, the UN and the US are still paying reparations to the jews while (1) they don't need it anymore, and (2) they are murdering and oppressing bigtime in PALESTINE...yeah, you heard me...PALESTINE.
who does the land belong to?
well, that is the most important question and while it does not affect me, it is sad that you, dns, would support israel's strong-arm tactics (top say the least)...
i not only agree with you, Mr. Djackso, but I believe that you, DNS, may either be extremely ignorant of the facts (the torture chambers many palestinians exist in, the clearing of houses in an entire community, etc.) or you just may, in fact, be a jew...
Tastey, to answer your question about the christians...
the christians, muslims (not MOSLEMS) and the jews/israelis/murderes all have their temples in jerusalem...one on top of the other on top of the other...the jews were exiled from the land twice...scattered about (but don't think it was not just)...then after they experienced what they did in germany, they went back to the area and did to the palestinians what was done to them to get the land...
what truly makes me sick to my stomach is how dns can say that the muslims are "mad" that the jews want their land back and they won't share...the fact is that no one side trusts the other...
israelis have guns...palestinians have rocks
israelis have loot from overseas...palestinians have no support
israelis don't even believe in jesus...at least the muslims do
Tastey, to make a valid judgement on this situation, rather than listening to us or the media, read books like, "i am a palestinian christian" and "nasinit"[sic] and the book by david horovitz that slips me...karen armstrong also writes great unbiased documented literature on the region and its religions as well.
