After a work out this weekend, I have made the decision to join a gym.
Which gyms are good to join relative to the price?
*personal on that i need no comments on (lol)*
Though this doesn't matter, i just want to say:
I have 2 beginning focus areas:
1. thighs
2. stomach
I have one beginnning health purpose:
to pump excess water/fluid out of my body that is causing me to swell up (i'm trying to avoid going on a water pill)
I want to take the next 2 years to loose 130 lbs
i don't need advice on diets and dieting. i'm still learning and monitoring my craving habits and my food intake limits as well as foods that causes 'things' to happen.
*personal off*

not sure about which gyms are good... but i can tell you for sure to get rid of excess water in your body it is important to drink an adequate amount of water each day - if you are not drinking enough water, your body will retain it causing uneccessary bloating...
pilates is really good for overall toning especially midsection and thighs..... i have a tape that i use at home... i think it is really worth while.
most gyms will give you a free pass for a few days (that way you can get a feel for the atmosphere ..etc).. you might have to ask.. but most will do it...
good luck ... :)

Lynette is correct. You have to consistently drink water before you body will get the idea and stop retaining fluids.
I also heard that doing those high protein diets work very well in dropping water weight. But, you must follow them correctly to avoid health risks. I'd suggest buying the Atkin's diet book and following it to the T.
If you want to actually improve your overall health, I'd say do something that is interesting and increases your heart rate for a significant amount of time.
It's not about the gym, but about how willing you are to keep up the work in order to reap the results. I choose my gyms based on how comfortable I am there. Since I'll be spending over and 1 hour there at least 2 or 3 times a week, I have to want to go.
So pick a gym based on how comfortable you are there, and nothing else. You'll be happier in the long run.

For me, I need a gym where I feel comfortable, a place that is nice enough that I want to hang out there, and offers many programs God forbid I get bored! A place that hosts alot of events that I'd like to come to, whether it's participating or watching, somewhere I can bring noodle with me and we can have fun together.
I have all that and more and I pay 51 dollars a month for it. Hell, I used to spend more than that on cigarettes and this makes me feel a whole lot better!

[QUOTE=ice-c]$90 a month.
Is that the price of a family membership? Or for just you? Seems a little pricey for an individual membership!

Curves is great for woman not really comfortable working out in a coed gym. However, if your looking to really sculpt your body this isn't really the place.

Is Ladies Express Workout - I know they are here but I'm not sure they are nation wide.
I really get enthralled with the Bally's commercial but where are those super gyms located? The ones here NEVER have all those classes and facilities and work out equipment.
We also have a place called Run and Shoot where you pay monthly with NO contract and NO automatic debit. If I lived near there I definately would be going.
I need to see what kinda specials Ladies Express currently has.
We are just getting curves but I would need to SWEAT and I don't ever see that in their program.
Lee Haney had a good gym as well - but the men were just so damn distracting, lol lol lol

the run in shoot in md routinely has REAL ballers (pro players) in there....but the thing is...they normally have the court reserved......no pick up games for them.

i personally go to world gym. they have two locations that are convenient to me, they offer a wide variety of classes (not the same old step class), and lets face it the men there are serious eye candy. not that i go to the gym to pick up guys but when you are loosing momentum and need an extra boost to keep going watching a hottie walk by helps to give the little extra energy to finish that last mile or whatever.
they also have babysitting services, dont know how much it costs as i dont have kids so i glossed over that part of the sales pitch. i pay about $47 a month with no down payment (grand opening special, i think the normal DP is around $150).
i have to agree you want to find a gym that is clean and well lit and somewhere that you feel that "good vibe" from. it is hard enough to go to the gym, it is even harder if the place is not pleasing to you on a aestetic and social level.
i looked into curves as they are a lot closer to me than world gym but i need variety and they dont offer that. so i had to nix that idea.
good luck in your search.
