View Full Version : Why....The Hush went down for "scheduled maintenance
Admin

Look, I made an executive decision on Sat-Day morning. The lobby of the Comfort Inn had a PC/Business center. After catching Belleza posting on THE HUSH and asking her what she was doing..
She was very honest and told me that she was replying to a "Hushnic 5 Hateration Thread?"....This is when the hush went down for "scheduled maintenance.
That's right, I pulled the trigga. It was in an effort to have a "Hater Free HN5". I looked at the options and decided to block the 21 from any more Hush drama until Monday.
So, PM me and cuss ME out if ya wanna.

Imagine a PC in the lobby of the "Official Hushnic Hotel?".....open for FREE for any guest to use. Well, this is what made the HN5 experience different.
Yep, we have had PC's in earlier years, but this one was right there, by the elevators, DSL and ret to go.
No Laptop, no drive to some folks home to post...hell, you got a post to make?..catch the elevator at 3am and post ya shyt....then go back to your room.
There could have been a better way to do this, but without preperation and really having NO TIME, the quickest way was to bring her down....and NO, this was not a secret to the HN5 group. All 20 knew how and why it was done.
PM me...if need be.

we were having some pretty good hush feedback when the plug got pulled....
there wasnt ANY REAL hateration.

but i don't recall hateration.
and....since when does a lil bit of online drama cause the hush to go down? i can't remember that EVER happenin.

All good points...but again I made that executive decision. It was me. No one even suggested it. I felt I had to do that so save HN5....Now....I know yall have lives and I felt that you would revert to your offline activities until the Hush was up again.
I trusted the fam that were in ATL @ HN5 to tell me honestly why they were still posting in Mid Hushnic...so I did not read any posts myself, it could have, but that would have taken away from MY HN5 Experience.

okay so now i am really confused.
what exactly could be happening on line that could cause something to happen to HN to the point that it needed to be saved.
i mean nothing posted on here was going to cause anyone to up and go home early?
i guess i just dont get it. even if ppl are posting while at HN why is that a bad thing?
can someone please enlighten the newbie. because at the moment it just seems like if we didnt go to HN we dont even matter enough to be able to talk amongst ourselves if ya'll are not around.

I didn't see any hateration on the board during the hushnic....so I do not see logic in shutting the board down. It seemed that the board was flowing rathing nicely. The "trap" posting was kinda funny... But an executive decision is a executive decision. I think that some of the feedback from the Hushnic, during the hushnic was good advertisement for HN6. But then again, the posts that we see here today is good advertisement for HN6 too. :D

Yeah, I am not sure if we would have lost any significant new members...since the hush did say that it was down for maintance...and it was only down for 2 or so days. But it seems un-Admin-ish...to stop the flow of the board...especially since most of the discussions were really good...and productive, in my opinion. The reports form Hushnic were positive. The issues involved with why some folks didn't want to go are real and were be addressed. The "Hater" trap thread was proably the worse...but folks here defended themselves well...so I would think that Admin would have allowed the Hush to defend itself. And I certianly do not think that Hushnic was in danger of anything...
Perhaps Admin received a report on the hush that was worse than it actually was...since he just simply shut down the hush without actually seeing if there was a legitimate issue. But again...he is the boss, and he made the executive decision....so I am cool with it. I assume that his intentions were very very good, so...life goes on! :D

I only have one question about the site being down: How in the hell did you know the site was down???!!!! Don't we have lives OUTSIDE? You know, outdoors? Bills to pay, kids to raise, groceries to get? Anything other than being on the internet? I didn't even know the site went down until I read this thread just now.
Maybe those of us that weren't at HN5 should take a note or two from those that were. They were in Atlanta sight-seeing, club hopping, drinking (one of my favorite hobbies) and just having a good time AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER!
Obsession is more than just a fragrance. It's also a disorder.

Well I think like myself most if not all of us have openly EMBRACED our on-going infatuation with the computer, internet and the Hush for that matter. For those of us that only intercrack during the day this premise is fine, but for those of us blessed enough to have computers at home - it has become a part of life, get up - live your life - log in occassionally, lol
rainy
08-18-2004, 06:33 AM
there are 24 hours in a day. it only takes a minute to log on and see the hush is down.
i do have a life outside of the hush or any other online site i may visit. and i spent a my weekend dancing salsa on saturday night, checking out a movie on saturday afternoon, did some laundry sunday morning, visited with friends, had happy hour on friday, went on a lunch date sunday afternoon.
all that and i still managed to work in a couple of naps, some tv time, and breezed through a few magazine as well. so yeah my life is full. just because i attempted to log in during the weekend doesnt make my life any less full or interesting or anything else than anyone elses.
having a computer at home has its privledges.

Pam and Rainy, points well-taken. I guess with what I do for a living by being on a computer and on the phone all day the last thing I want to do is log onto my computer when I get home.
Now Salsa sounds like fun AND good exercise. I can fake it a little, but I don't really know what I'm doing.

08-18-2004, 06:48 AM
it is excellant exercise. i woke up sore as hell sunday morning, but i had so much fun i have signed up for lessons. my first is on friday. i already know the basics but i want to learn all the extra fancy stuff. plus it will take the place of a gym workout during the week.
i wish i had been at hushnic to voice how foolhardy this executive decision was.

Good point.
This is the reality of the situation.
Sometimes when the emperor decides to go to the parade without clothes on...somebody should say "ummm....where ya clothes at?" or will you be the sheep that says "GO HEAD!!! Do YOUR thing!!!"
So to me it's not really about admin...it's about those that would watch him run in to a wall and not advise him NOT to run in to that wall.

has this become about a moral issue?
I think when one makes an executive decision; morality is always an underlining issue. I really don't think that this is a big deal. With this situation it really depends on what side of the fence you are on. Obviously, most of the people who were in attendance at Hushnic likely feel that Admin. made the correct decision while most of the folk who were here on this board feel like it was not the right decision. I guess it really comes down to the moral majority.

That must have been a conversation before I got to Hush Live, because I was there for what 6 1/2-7 hours and I didnt' hear anything about the hush being down, no conversation and let's not kid ourselves I was the author of the "Why you not going" thread even if it went damn haywire in the end. I think that a lot of the points being brought up here are pretty good.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that Admin had good intentions. Admin said that he didn't read what was being said on the hush, so the impression that he received is that there was much hateration about Hushnic...(which we should now know was not true). Admin was simply attempting to perform a little bit of damage control...although ,in hindsight, it was not necessary.
I am not sure and would be surprised if Admin was trying to PUNISH the left behind hush folk...I think that if more people could come to Hushnic, that would make Admin very happy...but I can see how his actions would allow folks to assume that they were being punished.
And Rain and pam had some good points about our lives outside of the Hush. As for me...not only do I work with computers, I love computers and their technology. As I have said in the past, I have a internet access point almost everywhere. My parents have DSL and a wireless network. My friends and loved ones have internet access as well. So the computer, now, is more like a TV than a screwdriver. I am not sure if it is an obsession...as much as it is simply a part of some of our lives.

I understand that as well...if that is the reason. But clearly...there could be another way to enforce that rule. Like block the access of the Hushnics. As the Hush grows, I am sure that we do not want to shut off access to those who could not or did not attend...that can be looked upon as a punishment. I am sure that there are win/win ways to do this next time. And Hushing during hushnic off times shold not be a problem anyway. But that is just my opinion. I hope that eventually, the hushnic can be a online and offline experience. (you know...hushnic live with webcams etc...) :D

If you take that to mean I am saying you or anyone else who is upset about the site being shut down over the weekend don't have a life, you are mistaken.
Rainy and Pam already cleared up my misconception as to what was being said in that regard.

ok....so it wasnt the entire group.
that's good to know.
and no hushing while at hushnic...is absolutely the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. and if it is NOT so ridiculous...why wasnt it done during OTHER hushnics.....
like last year...while we were in new orleans.......
again...i have to respect the executive decision...but i don't have to like it. i wanted to comment and get in to THIS discussion immediately when ya'll got back....but i let the post hushnic glow have its full effect...and thats cool.......and outside lookin in...it was even cool...i almost felt like i was there from some of ya'll comments and stories.....
BUT

Ohhhhh I'm sorry.... MY IMPRESSION is that you are acting like an ass.... :fu
And even after Admin stated the whys and hows..... those same impressions that it was shut down due to that thread are still there....
wtfever Zuri....tell folks the real deal and they STILL got shit in their heads....
This is what Admin said...and this is why I have had my Ass-ious Assumptions and ignoramous impressions. This is post #1:
Holla
I see nothing in his first post that said that he was doing it because of the "no hushing rule" at hushnic (And I agree with Ice's opinion of that rule).

Did those that were at Hushnic Last year get on the hush and reply to threads???? If they did then I dont remember it....
Unless u r misunderstanding me Ice.... I'm saying those that were AT HUSHNIC shouldnt be Hushin... Not those who didnt go....
Zuri....
I guess u didnt read the other threads he said AFTER because he clarified it with this comment....
but without preperation and really having NO TIME, the quickest way was to bring her down....

I didn't know that was a rule, but I can understand why. I read the board a bit too during hushnic, but quickly realized that I was in Atlanta to have fun and that being online took away from that.

Well, if I saw your post...you said that there is no hushing during hushnic.
But this is what admin said:
Holla
All 20 knew how and why it was done...but this post does not say anything about the "No hushing during hushnic" rule. That is why his actions may have caused some confusion. In hindsight. A simple, "I shut down the hush because of the 'no hushing during hushnic' rule" would have done a world of good and would have prevented a lot of misunderstanding....and incorrect ASSumptions/Impressions.

And this helps the point...that not everyone (even at Hushnic) knows of this "no hushing during hushnic" rule. But, if you ask me. Hushing at 3am should not be a big problem...and I hope that the online and offline worlds come together more in the future. The online hushnic reports helped to generate interest in future hushnics.

Cl, but who is talking about you? You didn't shut down the hush. We are talking about why admin did what he did and whether folks agree...and the issues surrounding that. I read what Admin said....I quoted him, so how can you say that I cannot read?

Ice, I am not asking a question in this thread. I am making a point. CL cussing me out and calling me names does not affect me. I have been called worse names all my life...in my face...so what is this going to do to me? Furthermore, I am well grounded in the real world and have more going for me than most folks here know...so I have nothing to prove to the hush folks. I am here by choice...so I am doing what I want to do...which is to discuss things. But back to this thread...CL is fighting me over not reading...I am showing her what many others here have seen...and why those folks feel that what Admin did was not necessary. But CL wanted to drive the point that the reasons to why the hush was shut down...but what Admin said does not really jive with what she says. And in debating 101 they have this saying.
If you have the truth, slam the truth on the table
If you have the facts, slam the facts on the table
if you have neither, slam your fist on the table.
CL yelling at me will not change what Admin said...nor will it change what IMPRESSIONS (a make believe concept to CL) that others have when he made this decision. But as I have said earlier in this thread, it was his decision and this is his board....and he can do whatever he wants to do with his board. And I will say that I have much respect for Admin and what he has created...and Admin knows it too...but that doesn't mean that I have to agree with everything that he does...and it doesn't mean that anyone needs to blindly defend him either. So, I suppose that this discussion is over.

Listen I been quiet as hell on this one.
ADMIN has the name ADMIN for a fuggn reason. It is his experience and knowledge that basically keeps this site a float. Sure we add to it, but ultimately he can close the MF down if he chooses. Hell I had a Yahoo group with 900 members and I closed it the fugg down when I chose.
So all these CRITICAL MF's on here, and yall know who you are. Kick back and get on another topic, cause 6 pages on this topic IS DOING TOO FUCKIN MUCH.

Hea, this is a forum. We discuss things. What is wrong with discussing things. And I don't remember putting anyone down here. So what is the problem?
And, yes, I can be exactly like this in real life. I'm a nice guy, but if ya wanna debate, I am going to DEBATE. Nothing wrong with that....so I thought.
And Chey...I have always been cool with you. You just don't like my politics...and have decided to take it personally.

In a free country and a open board...are you saying that we should not post our opinions? Because if you saw my postings, I initially stated that Admin has the right to do what he wants...
And the boss of this board incourages us to communicate about it....so I do not see a problem here. And I stated my opinion...so I am done.

What am I doing that is too far? My opinions are my opinions. Now it is a problem for me to have an opinion and be able to stand by them? Find something that I said that I do not believe. I am sure that you do not have the time to do that, so that is ok. Geesh. Where is the backbone, folks? Y'all can't take it?
And Chey, yeah...you do take it personal...because I have never attacked you. But you....
